"W-wait..."
Cassandra's soft voice was finally able to be heard.
"W-why do I play Princess Aurora?"
Sofia giggled, the fairy teachers simply smiling at her kindly. "Well, with how timid you are, you're perfect for the role!" Cassandra frowned.
She had never done skits before. She was expecting Amber to get the role considering her typical love for these things, not to mention she looked like Princess Aurora for the most part. Then again, it was probably awkward to pretend to kiss your own brother.
At the same time, that was Cassandra's problem.
She was kinda comfortable with not having to speak for the entire scene, but kissing a prince while pretending to be asleep? A big no-no. Not to mention her face was already blushing at the thought of it.
She looked to the princesses, but it seems that they didnt want to be kissing anyone that wasnt Hugo. With the glares of her classmates, Cassandra was definitely defeated.
"F-fine..." She sighed, adjusting her white lacey gloves. "Um...can we tone it down with the costume, though...?" Her voice seemed to trail off as if she was embarrassed to ask. She was relieved to see that everyone was okay with it.
---------
It was time. Lights, rose petals, mattresses, all that. It was their class's turn to present whatever magical moment they wanted to recreate.
The princesses whispered among themselves as Cassandra just nervously fiddled with her hair. Sofia sat beside her, helping with the remaining hair ornaments.
She felt a calm hand on her pair of gloved ones, turning to see Sofia with an excited grin. "Ready for the play, Cassandra?" It was more than obvious she was excited about this. Cassandra shook her head. "H-honestly, I just felt like I was forced into this..."
Sofia laughed and Cass giggled, the heavy feeling of anxiety lifting just a slight bit. However, the moment she was laying on the makeshift mattress.
Cass had to keep her eyes shut throughout the scene. On the bright side, she didnt need to see how everyone stared, nor did she have to see James's face for the entire kissing scene.
She could hear James recite a few lines to the crowd, followed by the sound of his footsteps getting closer and closer to her.
"What a lovely princess, cursed with a spell of slumber..."
He got closer and closer as her hands shook a bit. She tried not to bite her lip as she could feel him hover over her face.
"Only a kiss of true love can awaken the sleeping beauty!"
Clio, who played one of the fairies, resonated her voice to be heard by the audience. At this point Cassandra knew what was next. It was not really a kiss, and just a simple peck on the forehead. They havent really rehearsed it due to the last minute change in casting, so Cassandra did feel anxious once more.
A few seconds of silence.
Then she felt it.
A pair of warm lips pressed against her now red cheeks. It was supposed to be a quick peck yet his lips stayed still for a few seconds before pulling away slowly.
Slowly, Cassandra opened her eyes. The prince's eyes were staring into her own with a smile. The audience erupted in applause, continuing to leave the girl lovestruck.
----------
After Sofia helped her out of a poofy dress and took off her random hair ornaments, the two decided to walk back to the room together, Cassandra's face still flustered.
She had grown closer to Sofia over the past few days, becoming more and more comfortable with approaching the princess.
"Oh, I forgot to tell you." The two stopped just in front of their room. "Miss Flora wanted to say that you're next to hold a tea party."
Cassandra blinked a few times. Her place? Tea party? She looked down, pulling on her gloves once again.
"I-I can't."
Sofia tilted her head before giving a smile of reassurance. "Don't worry, I used to be worried about my first tea party--"
"Sofia, I really can't..."
Cassandra's eyes stayed on the ground and Sofia fell silent. For the first time in a while, Cassandra continued to speak.
"Um...it's complicated..." She wanted to tell Sofia, but didnt know how. After another awkward minute passed, she finally found words to say. "I-Its sort of like a curse, really..."
Sofia gasped. Before she could shoot a question, Cassy simply shook her head. "Im pretty sure there's nothing you can do about it...but thanks anyway..."
Sofia held the girl's arms, giving a hopeful smile. "No worried about it, Cassandra. I'll just tell Miss Flora about your circumstances and maybe she'll give you some considerations."
Cassandra smiled back in thanks, the two walking back into the room.
"CASSY!"
She jumped a bit at the sound, seeing James pounce onto her and give her a big hug. She awkwardly pat his back, not really knowing what to do. Sofia looked at the two and giggled, Cassandra's face burning up once again.
