Chapter 5. Separation

"Watch out mom, behind you"

"Too late....Shadow Shackle!" (Gerard)

Suddenly a chain made from darkness around uncle wrap mom's body. I didn't hear any chant too, how can that be? Mom try to escape but it seems that shackle too strong even for her. She try to use spell but it's also not working, her spell would not activate. What's happening?

"This is my trump card sis, i practice a lot for this one. I use this spell hundreds of times everyday just so i can remember the feeling of this spell, so i can chant in my head and activate the spell silently. I can succeed at 2 of 3 tries, but i know i won't win against you if i don't take some risk"

"Shadow Shackle, it cause a disturbance in mana around the target, so i can't activate my spell. I see, you really planned this battle beforehand, Gerard. But do you know that this spell has a weakness?"

"Weakness? You are bluffing, sis. The only way to escape from this spell is to get help from somebody to break the spell or to defeat the caster, that is me. I don't see anyone around here strong enough to defeat me"

"Well...that's where you wrong. Alan!! Throw that fire ball over here, NOW!!"

I can already guess mom's intention, but it still surprised me when she shout loudly like that, so i just throw that fire ball without thinking. Uncle dodged that fire ball easily of course, but the target was not him in the first place. The fire ball fly pass uncle and hit mom. As mom predicted, the shackle weaken and she then break free easily.

"How is that possible? Now way..." (Gerard)

"Well, you must learn more about your spell. Shadow Shackle is used to capture and bind someone, not to kill them. That's why when someone or something hurt the target, or try to damage the target, the shackle will weaken so the target can defend themself. So i suggest you to weaken the target first, so they won't be able to break free, even when someone try to damage the shackle."

Slowly, the surrounding return to normal, i can see normally now, no more darkness around us and the temperature return to normal too. I guess they can't maintain this large spells for too long, and i guess this battle will end soon. I can see they are preparing somekind of strong spell, the turbulance of mana is not like before, and i can see in their eyes that this move will decide everything.

"Tremble before me. For this is the end of the journey and the beginning of the end. Bow before me. For this words and this clause will echo for eternity. Let this be your end, and be my beginning....Venenum Verba!!" (Gerard)

"Rise me among fire. Flame is in my blood, in my body and my spirit. Burn me, devastate me along my foe, and rise me among fire, because i am fire and fire is me...Flame Clash!!"

They finish their chant at the same time, but something is not right. What is it? I think i hear familiar words from my previous world in my uncle chant. Venenum Verba? Is that Latin? Why is Earth languange used as spell here? Furthermore, where is he aiming? His spell looks like a black spear that go straight to mom and mom's spell turn her body into a flame bird. She dodges that spear easily and go straight to uncle to crash him with her flame body. Is this the end? Isn't that too easy?

Suddenly, my uncle face shows a wide grin, creepy.... and his eyes look at me. Instantly, i know something is wrong, so does my mother. I can see his spear, it changes direction and increasing it's speed, and it target is...me!!

Mom understands what it means, she brakes in the air and fly to intercept the spear as fast as she could. At the last second i just close my eyes and wait for my doom....and...
