Warriors Fanfiction: Fireclaw's Lives

Chapter 12

     Treeclan charged into the camp and formed a line ready for battle, waiting for their opponent to attack. 

     "Grassclan attack!" Swiftstar yowled. Grassclan watched their leader lept down from the Skyrock, charging in front of the quickly formed attack line, leading the crowd of loyal cats into victory. Firepaw looked for a Strengthpaw or Fightpaw, who was an easy target. He spotted the apprentices and pointed his tail at them. He heard Dawnpaw following crouching low, and when they got close enough, with a magnificent push, rolled onto his Fightpaw's back. Unsheathing his claws he scratched his back furiously, while Fightpaw, who was not expecting the leap from so far, let out a yowl of pain. Bitting into his hind legs softly, he let another yowl of pain and tried to swipe Firepaw, but Firepaw was too fast for him. He quickly rolled to the side and slid to the front. Fightpaw leapt, aiming for where Firepaw would slide, but Firepaw did not, and making a bad leap, he banged the ground fiercely. 

     Fightpaw, getting up quickly, tried to run, but the damage the leap had done to him, looked like he had broken a bone, and walked for home. Looking around, he saw Dawnpaw pinned.

     "Don't you dare ask for help!" Strengthpaw murmured, just as Brightsky had done. Pretending that he hadn't heard them, he ran off behind Strengthpaw and heard him let out an evil laugh. By now the had started to run to Strengthpaw, and knocked him over, saving Dawnpaw's life.

      "Thanks." Dawnpaw meowed. Looking up he saw Strengthpaw leaping onto them, both of them knew it was too late. In another heartbeat, they would be pinned. Looking up, they found another cat bashing into Strengthpaw. 

      "Don't you dare kill them! You and Nightstar's bloody methods!" The she-cat shouted. "I'll take care of him, you guys go help some other cat!"

      "I knew Nightstar should've killed you!" Strengthpaw managed to choke out. Firepaw ran to  Nightstar, who was at the back of everything, and Dawnpaw followed. Thought Firepaw was the first to get there, Dawnpaw was the first to fight.

      "Nightstar! You should have never been born!" Dawnpaw yowled while leaping into the air and rolling on to his back, but Nightstar was too quick for him and left Dawnpaw to face the ground. 

      "You little kit!" Nightstar growled. Firepaw rushed into battle and scratched Nightstar's nose, giving Nightstar a scar that would never heal. 

     "How dare you! You are no leader! How dare you fight a cat three times your size!" Nightstar growled. Nightstar leapt onto Firepaw, while Firepaw dodged as far as he could, just missing him by less than a kitstep. Following that Nighstar rolled off to the distance, then charged off making a powerful leap. Watching him closely Firepaw knew he was no match to his strong body, and looking for a nearby tree scrambled up onto it, again just missing him. Firepaw quickly climbed up onto the tree, before Nightstar had the time to see him. Catching his breath Firepaw thought what to do, he was not giving up on this fight. He carefully walked to the end of the branch. Looking down he noticed that Nightstar was about to battle Dawnpaw and quickly lept down onto his back. He scratched and scratched him but his little body could not stand the turn of the large cat and fell off. Pinned by Nightstar he knew he would be hurt.

       "This is what you deserve after scratching my nose, kittypet." He growled and was about to scratch Firepaw's delicate nose.

     "Don't you dare hurt my brother!"Dawnpaw yowled and bit onto his tail, making him lose balance fall to the side. 

      "We better run." Dawnpaw meowed and they both scrambled off to the main battle.

      "Help! Help! Help!" A cat yowled. The meow sounded familiar. It was Brightsky. Sniffing the air he tried to pick up her scent over many others, but could not manage. He looked for Brightsky's white pelt. Unable to find her, he was terribly worried and quickly leapt up onto the Skyrock, and searched for her. Finding that Dawnpaw had left him, he spotted a white she-cat pinned to the ground. 

      "I'm coming Brightsky!" Firepaw yowled and came back down to the main battle, heading the direction, but before Firepaw could run towards the danger, the battle was over.

       "Retreat!" Swiftstar called. 

       "Finnish her off Redclaw!" Nightstar growled. Redclaw gave a nod and gave Brightsky's belly a strike and snarled at her. Nightstar gave a yowl of approval, and the clan followed. Letting Brightsky suffer a hard death, he gave her a hard claw on her right eye, and Firepaw knew he had to do something. He climbed up onto the Skyrock and quickly dashed into Swiftstar's den, peeking outside. He leapt off the Skyrock, trying to get as close as possible to Brightsky, and ran towards her. 

       "Get away from my mentor!" Growled Firepaw, scratching Redclaw furiously.

      "Little kit! You are no bet for me!" Redclaw laughed.

      "Kit?"Firepaw growled. "You blinded cat!" The anger in Firepaw rose and he quickly pounced onto Redclaw. Redclaw as a senior warrior was not that easily tricked and slid to one side, leaving Firepaw to face the ground. 

      "Run Brightsky!" Firepaw meowed weakly. He was pinned down by Redclaw, having nowhere to go, he tried again, making a louder effort. "Run Brightsky!"

     "What about you?" Brightsky's small meow made him worried.

     "Just Run!" He meowed louder.

     "If you dare try to speak again I'll-"Redclaw let out a yowl of pain and stumbled to the ground, leaving a scratch on Firepaw's tummy. When Firepaw got up, he saw Dawnpaw in front of him. He looked down and found Redclaw with his bitten tail struggling to get up. He looked around and found Brightsky struggling to get back to the clan.

     "Brightsky!" Yowled Firepaw, grabbing the attention of both clans and ran towards her. With Dawnpaw following they reach her and helped her into the medicine den.

     "Oh, dear!" Grasspelt exclaimed, talking a closer look at Brightsky.

     "I-I-I'm ok r-right?" Brightsky whispered. 

     "You'll be just fine." Grasspelt meowed softly. "Lovepaw I need you to go out and get some more Yarrow, Confery, Marigold and Goldenrod. Then I want you to come back and drop it off. Take Dawnpaw and Firepaw with you. Understand?

     "Yes Grasspelt."They all meowed.

     "Now hurry, Brightsky won't survive long without Yarrow. If you see any moss or Goosegrass remember to bring it with you, we're a bit low on cobweb." Grasspelt whispered and the three cats ran off.
