I'm glad I'm not drinking water, because I would have just spit it out.

He already killed my Mother.

His words echo in my head for a few seconds after he said them. How is he not falling apart, how is he not on the ground right now, sobbing over the death of his mother? But then I look into his eyes and see the truth. He is falling apart, he is screaming on the inside, where no one can hear. I know because those screams, they used to be my own.

What if he kills my mother? The thought scares me, and I know I have to find her, if something happened to her...

"I'm sorry for your loss." Whispers Aspen. "But we cannot dwell on the past..."

I can't help but smile. That's all I've been doing, I live in the past, and no one can erase it. It will always be there, haunting me at every turn, every choice I make.

"I know how you feel," It takes me a second to realize Trent is talking to me, "Time doesn't heal everything, but maybe someone else can."

Was I speaking aloud? How did he know what I was thinking?

"I can tell you're very confused." He says, as if simple, "I am Mariene, the water mage of this generation. I have the ability to read anyone's emotions and I can sense power."

"Is there anything else you want to tell me?" I demand, but Aspen and trent just share a look as if they've known each other for their entire lives. Finally, Trent answers me, "Yes. Your training starts in the morning."

"What! Training? I'm not training for anything! I'm going home!"

Aspen sighed, "If you think you can find your way back, go ahead." I look out the window to see it's already dark and there is a forest surrounding the house. I have no choice but to follow when Aspen says, "I'll show you to your room."

As we walk upstairs I open my mouth to say something but I am interrupted by Aspen, "I'm sorry about Sylvia," She turns around so quickly that I almost run into her, "She can be... overbearing at times, but give her some time, she just needs a little to adjust. She hasn't come to terms with her past, and it just haunts her everywhere she goes, just don't take it personally."

I am too tired to argue, so I just nod my head. She gives me a small smile and keeps walking. Once we get to the top of the stairs, we turn right and she stops in front of a plain white door at the end of the hallway.

"You can stay here tonight, Though I suspect you'll want to leave tomorrow, but I do recommend and hope you stay." Aspen walked away, most likely heading to her own room to sleep and I walk inside what is apparently now "my room".

There is a small bed in the corner of the room and other than that it was pretty empty. A bed, a small dresser and that's pretty much all. I walk over to the bed, lay down and close my eyes to sleep.
