CHAPTER 19
Honestly, Flora is the last person I expect to run into. A part of me isn’t even worried about her catching us sneaking in. She’s in no position to judge. She and Trixie are fully dressed, meaning they’d been out as well, not to mention they are smoking, yes, smoking on school grounds.
But the part of me that’s not worried… it’s a very small part. The rest of me is freaking out.
Yes, they may have snuck out as well, but they took a picture of us. They may be smoking, but Libba is clearly wasted, and I’m pretty sure I’m a little tipsy myself. They could get into as much trouble as us, but, honestly, who’s more likely to wiggle themselves out of a situation like this? Definitely Florenca Irvian and Beatrice Nichols.
With all that being said, excuse me for how pathetic I’m about to come off.
“Oh, Florenca please don’t say anything to Principal Sachler I’ve gotten in enough trouble to last a life time and I know that you hate me—which, by the way, the feeling is most definitely mutual—but please don’t say anything I’d be in so much trouble with my mom and I could get expelled and that would be absolutely terrible and oh my god I’m picturing it right now, oh, oh my gosh, please don’t say anything—,”
“Shut up!” Surprisingly, it’s Trixie who speaks, narrowing her big eyes at me. “Goddamn, you are annoying.”
Libba lets out a sloppy laugh. I cut my eyes at her. “What?” she asks. “She’s funny.”
“Do I look like the type to dob on you?” Flora asks in a faux innocent voice.
I stare at her. “Uh, yeah?”
She places her bony fingers over the place where her heart should be. “I’m actually insulted that you think so lowly of me.”
“Cut the crap, Flora,” Libba snaps. “No one even wants to be bothered with you right now, so just get to the damn point already.”
I look over at Libba, trying to hide the smirk on my face. Does alcohol make you bipolar too? Maybe it’s just a side effect for vampires.
Flora, clearly not appreciating Libba’s bluntness, pushes herself away from the brick wall towards Libba threateningly. This isn’t exactly a good idea, because her face is now much more visible to the both of us.
“You—,”
“As if you intimidate me. Look at your face, looks like you’ve been wrestling with the hulk.” Libba lets out a snort at her own joke. Flora’s face flushes. “Is that why you’ve been hiding out in your room? Pathetic.”
Flora looks about ready to attack, and all of us can see this clearly. Trixie rolls her eyes and grabs Flora’s arm to pull her back. Flora shoves her away roughly. Trixie looks about ready to smack her, but decides against it.
“Look,” Trixie says. “We’re not here to harass you.” She gives Flora a look. “We want to invite you somewhere.”
I don’t bother to hide my confusion. “Why’d you take a picture of us?”
“Call it insurance.” Flora spits on the ground, inches away from my feet. I grimace.
