CHAPTER 16 PART 2
We pull up to a blue two story house and CM puts his car into park. The house seems well put together, despite the overgrown grass in the front yard. There’s no paint peeling, it looks like someone actually could live here.
I turn to face CM and give him a questioning look. “Where are we?” I ask, my voice soft because it’s now quiet in the car.
CM gives me a small smile, unbuckling his seatbelt and opening the car door. “My house. Let’s go.”
I follow him out the car, Edwin and Libba exiting as well. CM moves around to the back of his car, unlocking and popping the trunk open. “Edwin, a hand.” He calls out to the brunette, to which Edwin mock salutes him.
“Ay ay captain.”
I stand next to Libba, who’s watching the two of them curiously as they pull a black duffel bag from the car. As they pull another bag from the truck, Edwin says something to CM, and CM laughs, but his face turns a bit red. I could easily listen in on their conversation, but that would be rude.
“I get why you’re so infatuated with him,” Libba comments, her eyes still on the two of them. I raise an eyebrow. “He puts the sex in sexy.”
Before I can respond to the nutcase, CM shuts the truck of the car with a loud thump, and they both approach us. CM eyes me suspiciously, because I have an embarrassed look on my face do to Libba’s previous comment. Edwin drapes his arm over my shoulder and grins down at me.
“CM has always been into shorts girls.”He tells me, and I bite down on the inside of my cheek to stop from blushing. But his comment actually makes me smile.
“Hmm, really?” I mutter hopefully, wishing that CM somehow doesn’t hear us, but the look he shoots Edwin tells me he does.
“Oh yeah. Brunettes especially. Hey, you don’t talk much. Unlike Libba, who can’t seem to shut up.” As he says this, he dodges the punch Libba sends his way, only she misses and ends up hitting me instead.
I scowl, ignoring the sheepish look she gives me as we all four start up the steps to the house. “My mom says I’m anti-social.” I tell Edwin with a shrug, not knowing how to respond to his comment. CM is looking straight ahead, pretending not to be listening, but I can tell he is. It makes me want to smile.
Edwin raises an eyebrow at me. “Hmm, give me by the end of the night and I’ll turn you into Chatty-Patty.”
Libba snorts. “Good luck with that.”
CM pulls out his keys, unlocking the screen door first and then unlocking the front door. We each step inside, with Edwin shutting the door behind us.
I’m not sure what I was expecting, but I certainly wasn’t expecting this. After the light is turned on, we’re able to see the living room clearly for the first time. Instead of couches like there would be in a normal house, there are different colored bean bags sitting in a couch’s place. There’s a flat screen TV mounted on the wall, an Xbox and stereo on the entertainment system underneath it. The innocent childishness of it isn’t what shocked me. It’s the walls, which I assume were once white, every inch of it completely covered in graffiti. Multiple different names, some recognizable quotes, different pictures, and the word Paradise spray painted in different colors, just in the living room alone.
