It became evident of Naib's recent unusual actions when he had started avoiding you at all costs. It felt like a stab in the heart, not knowing what exactly you did to make him want to just escape from your presence. But it just felt like you were at fault, for not realizing what had made him this upset, if not made him be estranged to you.
Truly, it was strange to the other survivors, as you were always with Naib like some sticker a child would never want to take off. He was your companion, your best friend, at least all those memories told you so. He had never once let himself be secretive with you, even if those silent cries and haunting dreams chased him till the break of dawn, he would come to you only, spilling every detail of his worries to never wanting to let go of your embrace.
You believed you were his comfort, the person who he could always rely on. But, what happened? No longer could you even talk to him, comfort him, embrace his warmth. No longer could he be the person you always wanted to be with, because it became clear that he no longer needed you.
You were just a someone who can give their worries to, not a friend-but just a stranger who cares too much.
Ever since that day when Naib had avoided your ever so worried figure, you became a little empty, hollow no matter the amount of food you digested. The nights became longer, until the peak of the sun began to appear. Eating wasn't something you enjoyed anymore, the taste of your meals became nothing but bland, soggy, and just utterly plain. It seemed like your soul was completely sucked out of existence, only a fragment of what used to remain lingers in a bitter cold body.
You felt like nothing more than the robots Tracy had used to help her, but in a situation that you were used to heal and decay.
As nights became longer, did you notice that there was something missing. Like a warmth in the cold winter, it became something you longed for, but could barely have. It left a scar, a bitter mark carved in your flesh as it only grows bigger with every sunset that occurred.
"Are you sleeping already?" You heard from across the door, a gentle tone of voice echoed in your solitude. But even that couldn't give anything to what you craved for, a fountain of unnecessary emotions overflowing. But even when all you wanted at the moment was peace, tranquility, silence-did the guest just let themselves in anyways.
"Y/N we're worried..," you could tell who's voice that was, her tone combing in smooth honey and words soft as snow. "You haven't eaten properly these days, and we noticed that you barely go outside your room. Is there something wrong?"
Emily's hand brushed past your shoulder, aiming to pet your hair in comfort. But even with her delicate hands tangle through your messy and unruly locks, it never felt of something comfort, and only the harsh pulls were felt from you. Perhaps, all this kindness had wearied you out.
It was painful, knowing that all those memories were nothing but a false sense of imagination, and Emily saw it past your mask. She held a concerned face, and her heart clenched as a fellow friend suffered a truth she wasn't ready to face-or feel at all. It had tainted a friendship she dared not to ask, knowing fully well of how you had grown to like the mercenary. You had given your everything to him, so she questioned why couldn't he do the same?
You were a great person, a woman with polite manners and had pushed others into being themselves too. Truly, Emily was puzzled at how Naib had given up someone so valuable.
"If there is anything we can do for y-"
"Please leave. I...I just haven't felt well lately, that's all. I'll be able to go out soon," you choked out, but the taste of a bitter lie had swept away the sweet bliss of truth. You were not going anywhere.
