Shinichi's POV:
I couldn't sleep for some reason. In all my time here, I never caught insomnia. I shift my body to facing towards the nightstand. The alarm clock on it states "01:15". As quiet as possible, I get off the bed and walk out of my room. I tiptoe towards the living room, hoping that Kaito doesn't wake up. As the laptop continue to restart, I turn on the lamp next to the sofa. I look around, seeing nobody around me. At least he's asleep.
When the laptop finish restarting, I click on the web browser. Immediately, I type down "myriad dreamer". There isn't much relating to that gem. Games, the situation for the *DREAMers, the psychology of dreams; there is even a place that have a similar name. Nothing connects to that gem in this world apparently.
I put up a new window and search up "ren amamiya" and there isn't much for him either. However, the top results are articles about him. After reading a few of them, it seems like Amamiya is the bad guy in that case. Him committing battery to a man from a town and being sentenced to a one year probation. According to a few blogs, he's able to go to school because there was only one school that is willing to take a student despite their background. Court puts him under Sojiro Sakura, his current guardian and the owner of Leblanc.
Suddenly, a pair of arms wraps around me. "You weren't able to sleep too?"
I turn my head to see Kaito being the owner of those arms. He places his head on my shoulder as he embraces me more. The atmosphere becomes warm and cozy as my cheeks gets a tad hotter. I nod as a response while I grab onto his arms. Hold on, too? I use my free hand and ruffles his hair. "Is there anything bothering you?"
He releases his arms and walk around the sofa. He sits next to me as he wraps his arm around my shoulder. He look down at the screen on my lap. "You were thinking about him too?"
"Yeah."
"What do you think about him?"
"..." My judgement... I ponder for a bit. "From what I seen, Amamiya is a good person, so far as impression."
"But..."
"But, without knowing whether or not his current persona is revealed to be his true colors, he can't be truly trusted. Like us in a way."
"You're comparing us to him?"
"Think about it. Would a normal teenager be known for solving homicides and is taking down a shady organization, or to be known for their ability to create crimes with the police always on their tail and never get caught?"
"That is normal for me."
"Well, that's you Kaito. You're not normal."
"I know."
I look back down into the screen to do some more research about Amamiya. But, that trial seems pretty one-sided. From what was scripted from that trial, that witness' word choice seems forced like she was threatened. The victim, Masayoshi Shido, look pretty confident within the courtroom sketches. In the final sketch, Amamiya is pale with his eyes widen, assuming that he was announced guilty. There are holes within this trial. Too many holes. I look at Kaito to see him enchanted from the court files.
"There are too holes in this trial to be considered solved," he says with his face still at the screen.
"Agree. It's too one sided."

After finding out more about the case, I look at the corner of the screen. It reads "02:43". I should really get to sleep. I want to get up, but I can't. Kaito, while asleep, is leaning onto my shoulder. I want to wake him up and force him to his bed, but he's sleeping too peacefully. After debating with myself for quite some time, I carefully push Kaito away, making him lean towards more towards the sofa. I place the laptop to the coffee table in front of me and walk into the hallway, turning on the lights. Turning around, I see Kaito whimpering about the light. I walk back, shutting off the laptop and the lamp.
I place a hand onto him, rubbing his cheek with my thumb. "Kaito, you can continue sleeping after you get yourself into bed. Okay?"
He places a hand over my hand as he rubs his face onto it. Dang, that's cute. He purrs then nods.
I help him get up and walk to his room. At his bed, I tuck him in. I put a duvet over him as he waits patiently like a child. Sitting next to him, I place the same hand on the same cheek, rubbing my thumb around the same area.
Slowly, he puts up a genuine smile. "Good night, Shin-chan."
I didn't bother rebutting back. Instead, my thumb stop moving. My cheeks heated up for a bit, but I smile fondly back at him. I remove my hand a place a kiss in his forehead. I stand up and walk to the door. "Good night Kaito," I say as I close the door.
After turning off the hallway lights and returning to my room, I lay on my bed. Why did I did that? Thinking about what just happened, I blush again, but it was hotter then earlier; though, it didn't felt bad. Instead, I smile again, but it feel a bit more giggly. That thought warms me up as I fall into a deep slumber.

Kaito's POV:
I wake up, thinking about what happen between Shinichi and I way earlier in the morning. Not only he didn't fought back, but he kissed me. My face become hotter and hotter as that memory keep replaying in a loop.
Trying not to think, I get off of bed and walk to Shinichi's room. I open his door, but to see him still sleeping peacefully in his bed. Usually, I'll be waking him up and trying to be very annoying to get his energy up, but I don't feel like playing around with him, especially since he's been up around three in the morning. Instead, I walk up to his face and kneel next to bed. I put my hand on his cheek and use my thumb to rub it. I realize that I was repeating what he did to me, but in the other way around when I caught myself kissing him on that cheek afterwards. I blush and speedwalk out the room, hoping that Shinichi doesn't wake up.
However, instead of doing nothing, I arrive at the kitchen, ready to make some breakfast for Shinichi and I, like usual.

*DREAMers- illegal immigrants that came to America as a child/minor
God I did a lot of research for this in which I'm not sure if those research are necessary or helpful:
- I'm not sure for other countries but for America, you need an account through PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Resources) to read real court documents and I'm not willing to make one if I'm going to use it once only for research purposes. So I just guess what the court documents look like based from scripts from Mock Trial (even though I'm not a student of Mock Trial/Street Law and have no knowledge to know what it is like).
- I was looking up more properties and purposes about spectrolites. And to my surprise, a real spectrolite works similar to how I am trying to portray the Myriad Dreamer with. Difference is, there is truly no light that goes through it (I'm still not sure if the whole family of labradorites are see through) and it's not a magical gem (even though it does to help with anxiety according to research). I was simply looking for a real life gemstone that is multi-color and spectrolites just so happens to be the one that I picked when planning the story. Here is a link about the meanings of spectrolites: https://mycrystalpedia.wordpress.com/s/spectrolite/
- I honestly looked up "myriad dreamer" just to see the results. And those results in the story are real from the time that I searched for it.
- I don't remember whether or not the protag was charged with assault so I was looking it up at the fanwiki. It said harassment, but it was broad in my terms. Assault and battery are underneath the umbrella of harassment and it can go hand in hand but is different. Assault is verbally (like saying threats to someone) while battery is physically (like groping a butt). But for many people, the definition may varies.
Sorry for the A/N being too long.
