Casey

I tried to drag my feet down the long and dark hallway, trying not to get caught. Silent tears ran down my cheeks as I heard my older brother's screams, as he was being slaughtered by the cold hearted killer. It never seemed to end. The last thing he ever said to me was:
"Everything will be alright."

"Mom, Dad! We're home!" I had shouted when Casey and I had stepped in through the front door. When I didn't hear them reply, I got a little worried. They don't usually leave without telling us. I usually got a text message from them.
"Maybe we should check the fridge?" Casey asked.
So on she went in front of me as I followed right behind her. I saw a single sticky note on the fridge, making it look very empty. She picked it off and read it. Casey knitted her eyebrows in confusion.
"What's wrong?" wondering what had made her confused.
"Nothing's wrong, it's just that the note says that mom and dad are going to be gone for 'bout a week," she replied. Huh, I thought, they should have told us before. Reading my expression, she replied, "Something must have just come up. Don't worry, Connor, they'll be back in a week."
I gave her an incredulous look as she left the room. It's like she's 16, like me, instead of 13, her own age. Oh well, I suppose it's okay for her to take care of me sometimes, I thought smiling to myself. Turning on the TV, I switched to the news channel, wanting to find out what's up with the world.
The anchorman on the TV was looking a little worried as he was passing the news. Why would he be worried? Is it his first day or something? But then I saw the headlines.
"Serial Killer on the Loose- Redmond, Washington"
"Oh, no," Casey was trembling, "That's here."
To think that a serial killer was here in our city was terrifying.
"Don't worry. Besides, what are the odds that we'll see this guy anyway?" I reassured her. I spoke too soon.

"Whatever," I told my brother so he wouldn't think I was scared. I didn't want him to be worried about me. I could take care of myself. Meanwhile, the TV was blaring on and on that we should lock our windows and doors and not to go outside unless needed to. I really was scared, though. "I think we sho—," I was interrupted when the TV shut off. Just like that. Connor went over to see if the plug was loose, but there was no sign of that.
I went over to the living room's light switch and switched it to on. Nothing. Blackouts never happened here. Never. Now I was starting to get even more scared. First, a serial killer is on the loose. Then, there's a blackout.
"I'll get some candles from the basement later when it's nighttime," he said to me, thinking I was afraid of the dark. I wasn't afraid of the dark. I was just afraid of what could come from the dark. "Hey, don't worry. Everything will be alright."
