-A Memory -

Just me and my sister

Down the street

Hand in hand.

Cars humming

And birds roam free,

Past grandma's house,

Through the field,

Onto the diamond.

A memory?

A man and his child

Pitching and batting,

A home run

A foul.

Me and my sister walking past,

High spirits and matching clothes,

Green shirt

Green shorts

And tennis shoes.

Finally we arrive

I roam free

A memory?

Two-foot holes

And swinging feet,

Down the slide;

Onto the tire swing.

Round and round I spin,

Laughing in triumphant glee

But pretty soon,

I'm seeing stars and unsteady

A memory

Hand in hand

And swinging arms,

Chattering and laughing like the squirrels in the trees

Through the diamond,

Across the field,

Past grandma's house

And up the street.

A memory
