Dreary. That’s the only word that seems to describe this horrid, one horse town that people call Forks. It’s horrible really, how sad and pathetic looking this place is. But there really isn’t much I can do about it, seeing as how I’m stuck here for the next year until I graduate and can go to college. But to be honest, I’m probably not going to leave Washington. I love Washington, no matter how dreary it can get. Its better than Arizona at least.

Your probably wondering who I am, aren’t you? Well let me introduce myself, formally anyway. My names Lux Bishop, age 17, a senior in high school, and horribly screwed.

You see, my mom, or adoptive mom anyway, got remarried to this guy Phil who plays baseball. And since he’s on a baseball team, he’s constantly moving around and Renee usually tries to go with him. But she has to take care of us too, so she stays home with us instead to take care of us.

But Bella and I, my little sister, decided that it was unfair to her that she had to stay with us, taking care of us and raising us, and never getting to spend any time with her new hubby. So we took it upon ourselves to pull on our big girl panties and make a big decision. We would move to Forks with our dad, Charlie, in Washington.

Now like I said, I’m adopted. Renee adopted me when my mom died giving birth to me about a year before Bella was born. My mom and Renee had been pretty close growing up and since my dad left town the minute he got wind of my mom being pregnant, she decided to adopt me. I didn’t have any other family to go to, my grandparents already dead, no aunts or uncles, or even cousins. My only options were foster care or having Renee and Charlie adopt me.

And I love them for that, because I don’t think I could have asked for better parents. They were great, even if they weren’t actually together anymore. I actually used to live with just Charlie until I was eight, but then I started to get really depressed, missing Bella and Renee. So I moved to Arizona with them, but still spent most of my time in Forks. Even if the scenery was rainy and depressing, I still had a soft spot for the place. It was home to me, but I didn’t want to spend my life there. I wanted to make something of myself, I was determined to do so.

So back on track, here we are, standing in the Port Angeles airport, looking for a tall, old man with messy dark brown hair, with a couple grays coming in around his ears, and brown eyes like Bella. He was probably wearing his uniform too, so we also knew to look for the one person everyone was avoiding. I swear it’s like Charlie wears that thing because he knows it freaks people out. No one was going to pull something stupid with a tall, menacing looking cop around. But on the inside, Charlie was a giant teddy bear.

“You see him?” I asked, looking over to the brunette beside me. She got her looks from Charlie, his brown hair with auburn highlights, his brown eyes. Even his crazy pale skin, making her look like some albino vampire. Even living in Arizona her whole life, she never tanned. She still had that alabaster white skin that she inherited from Charlie.

Me on the other hand, I was completely different from her. She was tall and willowy, I was stupidly short and curvy. We were brunettes, yes, but Bella’s hair had this pretty reddish color hidden under her brown tresses. My hair was long and wavy medium brown, ending right under my belly button, and I had copper and auburn highlights that you only ever saw if I was standing in the sun. And instead of big, brown eyes, I had minty green eyes, with flecks of light brown around my pupil.
