Layla felt Brian's arm go freezing around her. The first few sentences she read knocked all the air out of her lungs. She dropped the phone, the clashing of the screen against the wooden floorboards.
"This can't be..."
Brian picked up the phone and re-read the reticle, trying to make sure he had read it right.Match made in heaven? Looks like the Elmar marriage has been hiding a huge secret for long! Ali Elmar, infamous oil tycoon has come out earlier this morning and finally gave up the perfect image he had been keeping of his marriage.
Each word that Brian read sent chills down Layla's spine. The words seemed to have been in an alien language that she did not understand...or so was it that she just did not want to understand. She wanted it to be fake, to be a joke.
Earlier this morning, the thirty year old Arab socialite stormed over TV's in both Arabia and America. "I gave her all I ha but it seems that love overpasses greed." He says, "Or maybe it just was not enough for her. I don't think I deserved this, I trust that the American justice system will do right by the wronged."
Ali Elmar explained that he had found his wife's journal and had discovered that the death of his young son last year was of his wife's doing.
"There are no words to describe the pain I've been forced to go through." He tells us with tears, "What father deserves to have his son be torn away from him by the woman he loved and trusted? But there is nothing I can do except hope that the justice system will do me, my young son and my family right. I trusted this woman for years, I don't think I can ever trust anyone ever again."
Ali Elmar reported his wife for fleeing with thirty million dollars after he confronted her about her exposing journal. Due to the capacity of the crime, the FBI have taken it upon themselves to investigate and now one of the most beautiful and highly regarded women of the Arabian world has suddenly become one of The United States' most wanted criminals.Brian's voice trailed off. They all stared at the phone with silence for a long time, neither one was able to wrap their head around what had just happened. Layla was accused of Lloyd's murder?
She was wanted?
Layla shook her head, refusing to believe it!
They were going to run away together!
They had come so close!
They couldn't lose now!
She continued to shake her head in denial as tears raced down her cheeks and into her mouth.
"This can't be happening!" Layla cried, "Brian, I didn't kill Lloyd, I loved Lloyd!"
Brian wa in a state of complete shock but it was understandable.
He had out months of work, almost every penny he had, all his hope and his own life on this plan. Now, if the FBI were after them, there was no way they could ever leave the country with or without fake ID, it was just too risky. She could not imagine the corruption and how crushed he might be feeling.
But he still found strength to comfort her. He took Layla in his arms and kissed the top of her head. He rocked her back and forth as she cried, as if he were soothing a child.
"I didn't kill him..."
"I know you didn't, Laili, I'm sure you didn't, baby." He croaked, "It'll be okay, babe, we'll make it through this too."
"It's the FBI, Brian, we are not getting out of this!"
"Yes, we are."
"How?" Layla bolted to her feet, her tears streaming down to her mouth, "I'm dead! It's over! There was no way we could've outrun a millionaire and now the FBI?"
Talya slowly tried to hold her in hopes of calming her down but Layla pushed her away.
"It was all for nothing!"
"No, it wasn't." Talya replied, "We can think of something."
"The FBI will be at our damn door before we can!"
Brian opened his mouth to reply but he never got the chance. Layla collapsed to her knees on the warm carpets that now felt freezing to her. She cried out loud, her cries echoed throughout the entire living room, her entire body shook and even the baby inside her was moving around as if it could feel the distress her parents were in.
Brian who had just been staring at her silently until that point, he finally let out a sigh and knelt down by her side. His trembling arms pulled her into his arms and placed her head on his chest. She could hear his heart racing, his arms were shaking and his palms were sweaty. But he still tried to shush her, running his fingers through her hair for he knew it always soothed her.
