As I stepped through the doors of such a foreign building, my heart began to race and my steps became shakier, anxiety reaching a high and never ceasing. I looked through small pockets between the immense swarms of people, trying to get my petite self through the ocean of diversity and to the main office, where I had to pick up my schedule for the year.
Finally finding the big blue double doors with the words 'main office' printed on them, I pushed the heaviness hard and slowly entered the room.
"Hello!" I was greeted by a nice lady who was wearing a light pink shirt and had graying hair.
"Hi I'm uh.. here to pick up my schedule?" I asked shakily scanning the room.
"Of course sweetie! I just need your name and grade." She smiled.
"I'm Clementine and I'm in 10th grade." I replied, fiddling with my fingers hidden underneath the desk.
"Okay. One second, I'll be right back." She said and quickly got up to retrieve a paper, shortly returning to the desk.
"Thank you." I shortly thanked before looking at the paper she had handed me and starting to walk off.
"Have a good day, Clementine!" She happily shouted at me and I nodded.
As I read down the list of teacher names and room numbers, a loud bang and a painful sting whipped across my forehead. I looked up from the paper to the metal pole separating the two doors I entered through. My cheeks reddened as I quickly rushed out and back into the mess of other students, rubbing my marked forehead.
Returning my focus back to my schedule and locker number, I bumped into another student, causing me to drop all of my books as well as my schedule. I quickly dropped to the floor to gather my things up.
"I'm so sorry. I'm new here and I'm just trying to find my homeroo-" I studdered before seeing a guy with his hand held out, ready to help me up.
"You're totally fine. I'm Louis." He spoke as I grabbed his hand and pulled me up. "Know where your going? Need some help?"
"Actually, help might be a good idea. Do you know where locker 282 is and Miss Jones' classroom is?" I spoke and handed him my schedule.
"Locker 282 is on the second floor, in this hallway," he said and pointed to a hallway on the map I had, "And Miss Jones' class is just across the hall from your locker." He stated, handing back my schedule and our eyes met for a few seconds.
For a split second as we made eye contact, I caught a glimpse of the color. He has really pretty dark brown eyes with nice eyelashes.
"Thanks..." I stumbled and took my paper gently from his grasp.
Louis held onto it for a second.
"See you in class." he said, then he let go and walked away in the same direction I was going to go.
I cracked a small side smile from our interaction before starting to where he said, pushing through the mix of tall and short students.
I arrived to my locker after quickly scanning the hallway for the correct number and attempted multiple times to open it but it failed to do so.
"Need help?" A familiar voice asked behind me and I turned around to see Louis.
"Oh, hey... Louis was it? Yeah sure. I guess help would be a good idea... again." I lightly chuckled as I swiftly stepped out of the way from my locker to let him open it.
He opened it in the matter of a few seconds after punching in the correct combination, he stepped back and looked at me with a huge grin, "Ta-da!" He grinned and took a fake bow, overexaggerating his victory.
