"Hey all i'm saying is it could be a good idea." Jade, my best friend said trying to prove her point yet again. I sigh, "No. I am not skipping school to go to some carnival, besides I skipped last week." Jade made her stupid little puppy face that never actually works. "What are we talking about?" Clay, my former male bestfriend asks joining us near my locker. "Just telling Rose here how we should go to the Carnival down by Playard docks. Its opening this week and every one is talking about it." I sigh closing my locker. "Then go with one of them." I say as I walk away and they follow behind me. "I agree with Jade, Rose you need to get out more. You're always cooped up in that house and sooner or later you're going to drive yourself crazy." I scoff loud enough for both of them to hear.
"Im not going to skip school to go to some stupidly crowded carnival. Especially not with the both of you. Besides I have to study." Which isnt a total lie. I could easily pass this upcoming test with my eyes closed but it doesnt help to freshen up on the facts. "What do you mean 'Especially not with the both of you' what's that supposed to mean?" Jade says. I can hear it in her voice. She already knows what I mean. "Look, how about this?" Jade Stands in front of the staircase door that I am trying to go through. "We can go to school, take the test and sneak out after. No one really takes attendance after lunch its the perfect time to leave." Jade continues. I look at Clay then back at her. "I'll consider it." That alone made them both smile. She moved out of my way and we made our way to class as Clay turns back to go to his. She sat in her seat behind me and leaned in. "How'd you sleep?" I could smell Clay's cologne on the sweater she borrowed from him. The one I bought him. I need to stop I said I was fine with it.. Yeah, she told me after the fact, and they were very open about it. I shake my head and push it to the side. It doesnt matter anymore we'd never work out anyway. "Hellooo, Earth to space cadet?" Jade whispers snapping me out of my head. "What?" I asked. While I can't see her I can almost hear her roll her eyes. "Rose you've been offish for a while. What's going on?"
I think back to last night. "The dreams started up again." I say. "Which one? The mystery guy or the giant carnivore donut that tries to eat you?" She asks. I roll my eyes, "Jade Thats your dream." I say as she bursts out laughing "ohh right."
"Can you please for the love of god stop talking in my class." I look up to see Mr. Moore standing near his table, eyes on us. The whole classroom fell quiet and I, for one was so distracted that I didn't even notice he had walked in and started class. I slide deeper into my chair, the eyes of my classmates making me even more uncomfortable. "Sorry." Mr. Moore rolls his eyes and continues. "As I was saying, I want you t-" He was cut off by loud knocking on the door. "What now?" He opens the door to find the principle on the other end.
After a few minutes of Mr. Moore talking to the principle in the hallway Jade leans over her table into my ear. "Can we talk?" I turn to her and I can tell something is bothering her. In the three years I've known her she has never been timid. Her long red hair and piercing green eyes make her popular and feared amongst the boys. Not only that but her curvaceous body makes all the girl hate her. She's kinda got it all. She scrunches her nose and her freckles show under her worn off concealer. Probably from having sex with Clay in his back seat. "When I alsked how you felt about Clay you told me that you were done with him and that you wanted him to be happy, even if it wasn't with you." I suck in a breath about to kill this conversation but she continues "and I know I totally murdered the 'girl code' but you said you didn't care who he dated." Yeah I didn't expect it to be my bestfriend... "Im just wondering if maybe you still had feelings for him." She looks at me expecting an answer. More like the answer, No jade, i'm fine, you can date my childhood crush who later became my boyfriend. The guy who promised he'd marry me one day and made me believe it. "Jade, we don't need to ta-" the class room door swings open and Mr. Moore walks in saving me from this converstion a little while longer. Behind him a boy who had the words danger written across his forehead in invisible ink. Perfectly flawed. His eyes locked on me, slicing through me like a fresh sharpened knife to an orange. My stomach turned over and my throat went dry. A shadow of a smirk that made me quiver and goosebumps appeared all over.
He's tall, maybe fix foot three. His dark unmarked, unblemished skin made it hard for me to take my eyes off of him. A really sexy but warning smile- no, not smile but a hidden grin that says 'I dare you'. His long dreads put into a low messy bun. A few loose ones to shape his slender but bold face. "This is your seat, Mr...." Moore stands in front of my table and the new guy slides into the seat next to me. I can't take my eyes off of him. "Kit." He responds, his voice is low but deep, the goosebumps reappear. I'm nudged in the back by Jade behind me. "Stop being weird." She whispers in my ear. My face goes hot. Shit. "You know they say something about if you take a picture it will last longer." New kid formally known as Kit turns his body toward me. "But from you I think I like the attention." He continues. A smirk appears and his dark, almost unnaturally black eyes stare into mine. "I-I wasnt staring. Mostly wondering why you're sitting next to me." I try to bite back. This only causes him to fully smile revealing his incredibly bright white, perfect teeth and dimples. The left one deeper than the right. Jesus christ.
"Rose, play nice." Jade whispers a little too loudly. "Yeah Rose, play.... nice." The words echoed in my head and made me light headed. The bell rang and I shot up and practically ran out of the classroom. I couldn't wait to go home and go to sleep. I am exhausted! I felt a hand over mine and I paniced spinning on my heels and coming face to face with Kit. "Jesus fuck! Let me go perv." I snatched my hand away and he puts his hands up in defense and backs away a few steps. "Relax, I just wanted to give this back to you. You left it in class, you know, when you ran away from me." There's a ghost of a smirk on his lips calm but not friendly. "Thanks. Also I didn't run away from you. I just had a long day and I want it to end as soon as possible." I said grabbing my book from him and stuffing it onto by backpack. "Grey eyes. You're not dead are you?" He asks taking a step closer stealing my oxygen when he does. "No its a recessive gene that I happen to have. Actually I have to go so ima ju-" He circles around me and stops. "The book, what's it about?" He asks intensely. What? "Its about a girl that doesn't trust a boy but ends up falling for him, she later finds out that his original plan was to eat her and claim her soul." It all came out before I could stop myself. He tries to swallow a chuckle and nods "so you're into the supernatual stuff?" He Inquires, I shrug. "The supernatual stuff is better than reality I guess." For some reason I can't shut up.
"So vampires?" He asks. I shake my head.
"Cool I guess but played out. Everyone wants to be the bad ass edgy vampire or the kick ass but down to earth werewolf." He nods thoughtfully.
"Demons?" He looks up at me and his eyes somehow seem darker.
"Especially demons. I don't know I just like the whole black eyed thing, like from the T.V shows like Supernatual." I shut up realizing how much I sound like a kid.
Kit leans against the table and shakes his head. "Nah, being a demon is hard work. Its not fun and games. collecting bounty, taking notes, always on the go. Not all of them have black eyes, you could pass one and not even know it." He says with a straight face. "You seem to know a lot about demons." I smiled and once I realized what I was doing I stopped. "I could tell you a few things that I've learned. If, you agree to have coffee with me." He said softly. My gut and my head told me no, don't do it. We don't know him. "I can't sorry I have plans with Jade. Maybe some other time?" or not. A smile tugs on his lips and his eyes never leave mine. "I'll hold you to it." Kit got up off the table and turned to walk away. "By the way. The project is due Tuesday." And with that he walks away. What project? "I have to cancel our thing today. My dad is taking me out to dinner. You still need a ride?" Jade came up behind me scaring me. "Woah you okay? Seriously Rose whats wrong?" I shake my head "Nothing, nothing. Please just take me home."
