In From The Night

My alarm goes off and I roll over to turn it shut it off. The other side of the bed is empty, I look around the room and Kit's duffle bag is still on the chair where he left it. The door opens and Kit walks in with dark blue jeans and his black sweater. "Good you're up, time for school." He says walking back out the door.

I meet him in the kitchen. Lilah is in the living room watching the news with a half eaten blow of oatmeal and Kit is in the kitchen with a glass of orange juice. "Cant I just skip school and you can convince them that I'm smart enough?" I say pulling my hair back into a high ponytail. Kit smirks at me, "I could but I have errands to run and I refuse to leave you here alone." I point back at Lilah. "Nope sorry, I'm going out." She says coming from behind me to hand Kit her plate. "Where are you going? You don't have any friends." I say. She laughs, "Neither do you Clay told me what happened with Jade." Damn him. "I have Kit." I mutter. "Sorry but your boyfriend doesnt count as a friend. Also Clay doesnt count either he's in love with you and now that im thinking about it, it's weird that you keep him around."

"I dont keep him around he keeps showing up. He's the one that wont leave." I say.

"Have Kit deal with him." She smiles. So he can Kill him? No thanks.

"Clay isnt harming anyone he's just a nuisance."

"Time to go." Kit says grabbing my bag and heading out the door.

We get to school and I spot a flash of burgundy hair. She comes up to the car and smiles. "What is she doing here?" I ask Kit as I get out the car. Wolfie is in black tights, a Thrashers shirt and black biker boots, lollypop in mouth. Do demons get cavities? "She's here to do me a favor and keep you company until I get back." He says locking the car as he gets out. "Get back? Where are you going?" I ask. Kit leads me to the principles office and convinces her to give Wolfie a note for all my classes. "I have to follow up on a connect that Jeb made, I need to see how we can undo this deal." He says as we walk to my first class. I want to go with him but if he's having wolfie accompany me to school im sure its for a good reason. "Okay." I say. Wolfie walks with us into the class and Kit hands the teacher a note and Wolfie takes Kit's seat next to me. "I'll be back soon." He says as he walks out the door. I look over at her and her eyes are wide as she looks around. "Whats wrong with you?" I ask. "Ive never seen so many humans in one room before." I cant help but to laugh, she turns and looks at me. "I don't care much for you, Kit asked me for a favor and he's done so much for me that I couldnt say no. Dont make me do something ill regret later." She says crossing her arms. "What is your deal? Do you just want to be angry?" I look at her and she looks away.

"And for the record I dont pine over Kit. I look up to him and yes, I love him but I know that he's my brother." She says tucking some hair behind her ear. Her eyes though bright in color, they are dim in the inside. The school bell rings making her jump and I put a hand on her arm, she looks at me confused. "It's to let us know when classes are starting or ending." I say.

The first half of the day went by smoothly. "Fuck, I'm starving." Wolfie says holding her stomach as we walk through the halls. "Good because its lunch time." I say leading her to indoor cafeteria. "It looks like a small mall." She says looking around like a kid in a candy store. "So you've been in a mall but you were surprised about the amount of humans in the class?" I say as I decide what I want to eat. "I've been to a lot of places, most of them are in demon areas. Demons have their own towns and businesses. Some own clubs, some own clothing stores others bakeries. My mom wanted to get away from them but the humans aren't that much different." She says watching a group of girls order. She looks away. "So let me guess you've never had a female friend?" I ask and she looks at me annoyed. "I dont need female friends."

I sigh and sit next to her. "Yeah they kind of suck." She looks at me with an eyebrow raised and I tell her about Jade. "She sounds like a real bitch." I laugh she's not enitrely wrong. "Pick something." I point at some of the food options around the cafeteria. She points at a sandwich place, I buy us food and we find some empty seats. "Who's this?" I look up to see Clay looking down at Wolife and behind him is Jade who looks uncomfortable. Wolfie looks at me clearly nervous. "This is Wolfie, Kit's sister. She's also a transfer." I say as they sit down with us. "I didnt know Kit had a sister." Clay says his eyes roaming Wolfie's body. "Excuse me, my eyes are up here." She snaps at him, I smile and she notices. "Sorry you just dont look like you're from around here." Clay says taking a bite out of his burrito. Wolfie leans into me "who are these people." she whispers. "Thats Jade and Clay." I whisper back as they look at us confused. Wolfie laughs and shakes her head. "The ex boyfrinend and ex bestfriend." She says out loud and Jades cheeks go pink but she avoids eye contact. "Wolfie." I say and she shrugs. "I dont know much about having female friends but I do know that there is a code. You dont steal eachothers boyfriends or underwear." I choke on my drink and she laughs at me. Jade looks at me and then back at her food. Wolfie notices and throws an arm around me. "We wont have that probelm, right?" She looks at me and I look over at Jade who gets up and walks away. Clay looks embarassed and confused but follows her. I look at Wolfie and she removes her arm and sighs. "Hear me out, having human friends is cool an all but you're being hunted down by demons, do you really think they wont come for the people close to you?" Says looking at Clay and Jade who were talking on the other side of the cafeteria. "And besides, there's no fixing that friendship." She stuffs her face with the last few bites of her sandwich and looks at me. I cant help but to bust out into laughter.

The rest of the day goes by and Wolfie has nothing but questions about humans which result in her saying something unexpected and me laughing. The last bell rings and we pack up to meet Kit in the parking lot.

"How was your first day of school?" Kit asks Wolfie and she shrugs "Way more students here than my last school." She smiles. "You were homeschooled all your life." Kit shakes his head. "Exactly." She says getting into the car. "How about you?" He says as he takes my bad and puts it into the car. "Seeing Jade and Clay was an awkward ordeal and we had a project due today that I didn't know about." I say sighing. Kit laughs.

"Well lets go home it'll get better." Kit says as we get on the car and he drives off
