Chapter 10

Nightmare's POV

I stared at Cross. He seemed confused and curious at the same time. I couldn't help but grin.

I noticed that Cross did not have on his heart locket. Cross was never open about his past, but everyone knew that the heart locket was very special to him. He never takes it off. Come to think of it, neither does XChara.

My thoughts whip me back to the present. I realized that if Cross doesn't have his necklace, then he probably doesn't remember us either. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I don't think he's who he used to be anymore.

Blue's POV

Everything was going so fast, I didn't realize Cross was missing. Like I said, my memory is a bit hazy.

He looks like Error now. The glitches were hanging around him. It was unsettling, really.

I looked to see Error's reaction. I was really worried about Cross, myself. Error looked like he blamed himself.

"Insolent fool," Noxious said. "Who do you think you are?"

It took a second for Cross to react. Cross's eyes filled with the word 'error' as he jerked backward. Poor guy.

"It's the voices," Error whispered. "They're giving him a name."

"What will they give him?" I asked.

"I don't know."

"Well?"

"iT's...i'M CrErORr," Cross said with a level of uncertainty.

CrError's POV

The voices won't shut up. I don't get it. Did I do something wrong? I said exactly what they told me to. Why are they yelling at me? I want them to stop. Stop. Stop! Please, I'm begging you. It hurts. Hurts a lot. I can't keep myself together. I'm falling apart.

Wait, I'm not? I'm standing still. I haven't moved. I look at everyone else. I feel like I should know them. But I don't. I hate it. Why is everything so confusing? Why me? Why why why...

Wait, I remember! Remember what? There's a human. Somewhere inside me. I don't know how or why. I feel them. I tune out everything. Where's the human? I dig inside myself. I can't find them. Then I do. Then I lose them.

The voices laugh. They laugh and laugh. I can't block them out. I feel shame. I want to leave, but I can't. Amiss all the chaos, I hear one gentle but loud voice:

I am here

Then it was gone. I feel like it was the human. I try to reach onto them, but it feels like they are pulled back by something.

I pull myself away from my thoughts. I once again look at everyone. They start to blend together. I realize that it is my eyes that blend them together. Eventually, they become dots of color against the blankness of this place. What was happening? I feel myself teeter totter between my feet. I feel extremely tired. I close my eyes. I fall.

DS!Blue's POV

I felt bad for CrError. Looking at everyone's expressions, it seemed like he was their friend. I let a faint smile creep onto my face.

It immediately disappeared. I heard laughing. I whipped my head around to see that it was Noxious. His hideous laughing resounded throughout the entire Anti Void.

"This is too perfect!" Noxious said through the laughing. "He doesn't remember any of you at all! And you all still care about him! This is my chance..." I knew what he wanted to do.

I rushed at him, grabbed his hand, and pulled his fingers apart. "No!!" I yelled at him. "I won't let you!"

"Oh really?" Noxious scoffed. "You can't do anything. You're useless."

"I won't let you use him!" I yelled back. My cry sounded more like a strained plea. I could feel tears streaming down my face. "Not like... not like... NOT LIKE ME!!!"

There. I said it. I admit it. He was my demon. My problem. Nobody else's. "I won't let you use anyone else! You're my responsibility!"

"Like you own me."

"hEy, bUd," I heard the other Error say. "pAy aTtENTioN." I took a step back to notice that Noxious was wrapped rather tightly in blue strings. I kept my hands firmly on top of Noxious' to prevent him from using his magic until I saw the blue strings attach themselves around his hands. I slowly let go of Noxious' hands, unsure of whether or not the strings would keep him.

I felt the other Error's hand on my shoulder. "yoU'rE nOt tHe oNly oNe thAT cAn'T dO whATeVEr yOu wAnT," he whispered. What an interesting way to try to comfort me. It almost sounded like he had something like me.

XChara's POV

Yep that's right. It's me. Somehow the Anti Void didn't affect me like it did Cross. Sorry, CrError. I didn't know Fate hated us so much. As you can probably deduce, I was locked inside CrError for a while. I finally broke through after pushing and shoving my way through all the voices that now populate his head. That wasn't easy.

I'm now in control, but I don't know if I can hold it. Fate wants CrError in control, so I probably won't have long.

"Heya...?" I half asked, trying to get someone's attention. I didn't really know what was going on. Honestly, CrError's mind is so jumbled up, I couldn't make sense of it. And I couldn't see out of his eyes or materialize myself as a ghost, my normal ways of doing just that. This will be very hard to get used to.

The first one to notice me was the other Cross, the only Cross now. He pointed at me and said, "Hey, it's the kid!" The split second afterward, I got a headache. But it was not any ordinary headache. It was CrError, or rather Fate, pushing against my control. This isn't the first time Cross and I battled for control (One time I went up to his crush and told him Cross liked him. Cross was blushing for days!), but it definitely not CrError at all.

I attracted an audience. Almost everyone stared at me. I realized that the headache I picked up wasn't CrError trying to get his body back. That doesn't mean he wasn't trying to get it. It was some sort of warning. "He's coming," I said quietly. I felt the control I had slip away. My body periodically phased out, being replaced by CrError's. It was surprisingly painful. It was a wonder that I stayed standing. I soon gave up control to CrError and went back inside his jumbled up brain. I hope they understood my message.
