The mist is thick enough to blur out anything that is more than a few feet away from me. Being surrounded by trees and walking aimlessly through this apparently dense forest, with the only sound present being my feet touching the mossy ground was perplexing my ability to think. I keep tripping over something but cannot seem to grasp the idea of what exactly it is that is hindering my ability to walk.

Where am I?

I look down at myself and see that I'm wearing a fitting black gown that comes down to my feet. My auburn hair seems to be hanging wildly over my shoulders. Pale white skin peeking from underneath the bell sleeves of the gown feels extremely cold.

I look around me again hoping to sense something in my surroundings that would help me realize where I am and just how did I get here. To my utter disappointment, all I find is a vast expanse of trees peeking from underneath the fog continuing beyond my reach.

I keep walking further, looking for something, anything, and it's as if my legs have a mind of their own, not completely following what my mind wants to do and stop, neither following what my body is doing by walking properly. I look down at my feet, realizing that they're numb, presumably from the cold, however seeing that they are bloody and injured, hence explaining my inability to walk.

Still not being able to walk normally, I look around more confused than ever, and suddenly in the distance, as the fog clears up a bit, beyond the trees is a woman. Her red hair framing her face in such a way, with her head bent downwards as if she were looking at her feet, that it completely hides her face from the world around her. Her attire being a gown in a shade that resemble the bloodiest of reds there seem to exist.

I realize my feet have a mind of their own as I've stopped walking, looking into the distance at the scene. I try opening my mouth and calling out to her however nothing happens.

It's as if I'm there, but at the same time I'm not.

Suddenly I hear a whisper from beside me, as if someone stood right next to me. My head turns and I see that a foot away from me is a man.

Even with his front facing the woman in the distance, all I see is his slightly long and messy black hair graced by a crown, his black embellished tunic covering the vast expanse of his chest, coming down to his thighs as he stands absolutely still. His face being an absolute mystery to me as if my mind just couldn't comprehend his identity. Or any identity at all.

I look back to the woman in the distance, and see that the fog has cleared up now allowing me to see the wreckage surrounding the woman. Numerous corpses surround the expanse of the clearing she stands in, however what stands out is the little girl with red hair standing in front of her looking up at me, and the man standing beside me.

The stench of blood and rotting flesh surrounds me, suffocating me internally, however I stand unfazed having no control over what's happening.

The feeling of dread settles in me as the distant sound of a woman screaming resonates through the silent night.

In the blink of an eye the little girl is gone.

The woman stands still in the little clearing surrounded by corpses around her, but now she has a bloody medieval sword in her hand and a crown adoring her head. Her face still a mystery yet looking straight at me. It was like she was faceless.

I look down to see a sword at my feet, the same sword that the woman had in her hand. I look up and suddenly the woman is gone.

The clearing starts to fog up, hiding the corpses among the trees leaving no trace of what happened. I look down at the sword, then turn to look at the man beside me but find him to be gone as well. My hand feels heavy and I see the crown that the woman wore, in my hands with traces of blood on it. Looking down I see that the sword is gone, and then my hands feel cold and empty again. The crown's gone too.

All that's left is me alone in the woods, surrounded by a thick fog.

Feeling a sense of drowsiness, I close my eyes.

Everything goes black.

So,

Hi.

Thank you so much for choosing to read this book, I really hope you enjoy it. I know that the prologue is absolute bonkers, makes no sense at all, bla bla bla, but I hope at some point in the book it will start to make sense.

Until next time (when the book actually begins).

Lots of love,

Alais.
