Chapter Three

"What the hell just happened?" said a familiar voice from behind Riley-Ann.

She turned around to see her red-headed best friend standing there. Riley clenched her bag to her chest as she stared at her friend.

"Nothing!" Riley exclaimed quickly.

Lily looked at her in a way as if to say she knew better than to believe that.

Riley shrugged and rolled her eyes at Lily.

"I'll tell you about it later. We've got a ten page essay on Wolfsbane for Slughorn due tomorrow"

***

Riley-Ann stared down at the blank parchment in front of her.

"Wolfsbane. Wolfsbane. What do I know about Wolfsbane?" Riley-Ann thought aloud. She looked down at what she had written so far.

A common misconception when it comes to Wolfsbane is that it can cure Lycanthropy. Wolfsbane can not cure Lycanthropy. It simply makes the process of the transformation more bearable to the afflicted.

Riley sighed. What else did she know about Wolfsbane?

Riley-Ann looked away from her essay and studied her surroundings. Riley, Lily, and Marlene's textbooks were sprawled across the table in the far corner of the library. Lily had gone to grab a book for her Divination class and Marlene had run off with some Ravenclaw boy.

Riley sat alone thinking about how much she hated essays. She excelled in all her classes, but when it came to writing down the information learned she struggled. She always got O's on her essays once she stopped stressing about it. So that's what she had to do. Stop stressing.

She took a deep breath, looked back towards her notes, and continued her essay.

Wolfsbane potion was invented by a wizard by the name of Damocles Belby and it is very difficult to make. The main ingredient is Aconite, which is a very poisonous substance. So, if the potion is made incorrectly it can be very dangerous.......

"Hey Sister"

Riley-Ann looked up to see her brother leaning against the table. His dark brown hair was covering his eyes, his shirt was untucked, and his Gryffindor robes were laying halfway off the shoulders of the third year boy.

"What do you want, Jessie?"

Riley-Ann sighed, not really in the mood to listen to anything her brother had to say.

"So, I hear you're also going to be performing at the Sadie Hawkins dance," he stated.

"Yes" Riley said, as she stared at him with the most annoyed expression you could ever see in your life.

"I don't know if Flitwick said anything to you, but......"

"About performing together? Yeah, he did"

"Okay. Good. So, I was thinking we would........"

"Thinking we would what? Jess, in case you've forgotten, I haven't performed anything myself in five years and we haven't performed as a family in at least seven"

"I know. But, for us Deveraux's it's like riding a bike"

"I know Jess. But........"

"Besides, it's a school dance not a sold out concert with over ten thousand people watching"

He wasn't wrong. If Riley was gonna get back to performing, a dance was way easier than one of her parents concerts.

"Fine. But only if the Twins agree too"

"Well, here they come now" Jessie acknowledged as the two identical first year Deveraux's entered the library. Jessie got their attention and the twins walked towards them.

"Hi Ri" greeted Diana.

"Jessie" Georgia acknowledged.

"Hey girls. how are you doing?"

"We're good. How are you Ri?"

"Good," she answered.

"What are you doing with that?" Diana asked, gesturing towards their brother.

"Rude!" Jessie exclaimed, he didn't like being ignored.

"We were just talking about the dance," said Riley.

"Oh! We're so excited to perform with you!" said Georgia ecstatically.

"Really?" Riley asked.

"Yes! We've already got dates too" said Diana.

"We're going with Fabian and Gideon Prewett," said Georgia.

"Gigi, Didi, Aren't they a bit old for you?" questioned Riley.

"They're only like a year older than us," defended Diana.

"Yeah. Besides, it's only a dance" said Georgia.

"I'm going with Sarah Bones," said Jessie.

"Who are you going with Riley?" Georgia asked.

"Um......."
