(short chapter)
five days passed. today was the day of the funeral.
mark sat next to his father. donghyuck's other friends sat on mark's other side, including mihi and jia.
all to support donghyuck and his family. all to grief.
"beloved father and husband." they heard.
first seoa walked up to the front.
"he was my first love. we were only teenagers. but it was true love. he was a real rebel," she laughed, "i got in a lot of trouble because of him."
she kept on speaking. mark looked over to the front row. a boy, brown hair filled with rainbow streaks, sat there. mark wondered how he was doing. mark wanted to hold his hand. whisper to him that it's all going to be alright.
after haeun had spoken a few words, donghyuck stood up.
"dear papa," he gulped down the lump in his throat, preventing him from crying, "i am sorry. we were not always the perfect family. and i'm happy you never asked that from us. you loved me, haeun and mom more than anything in the world. these last weeks you became my best friend. just like when i was little. we talked boys and girls," he giggled, "but we also cracked a smile over stupid things. you were there to support me even though i was letting everyone's expectations down. now that you're gone, who is there to share all this with me?" a tear fell down. "who's there to be my dad? i know it's you. you will always be here, right here." he said, pointing at his heart. donghyuck sat down again.
he hugged his sister.
they walked over to the grave. the coffin was slowly lowered. this was the goodbye he had been so afraid of. but he wasn't afraid. his dad wouldn't have to suffer. and he knew he would make his dad proud.
mark and his father held hands. mark looked over to the three family members. seoa noticed mark looking. she waved him over, as an invite to comfort her son.
mark softly stepped their way, leaving his father. he stood next to donghyuck. his hand slipped in his.
donghyuck squeezed mark's hand, as a sign of appreciation. he was relieved mark was there.
as people started to walk by the grave, to say their last goodbyes, mark stayed next to hyuck. donghyuck wouldn't let him go even if he tried.
people gave their condolences to the family.
there his friends passed. he hugged them one by one.
jia stroked his cheek. "you're so strong hyuck." she said. donghyuck like his name being said by her. he was glad she didn't call him otherwise.
mark hugged his friend. he brushed the hair out of his eyes. he moved on, also hugging haeun and seoa.
his father followed as the last one.
he shook donghyuck's hand, but soon donghyuck found himself also in a hug.
he shook haeun's hand, then stopped in front of seoa. he hugged his friend. "if you ever need anything, seoa, my wife and i will be there. you know where to find me." he kissed her cheek and also left.
donghyuck gave his mom and sister a rose, and held one himself. they wrote a note to their loved one. "i love you papa." haeun said, sitting next to the grave, throwing the rose in. donghyuck did the same, and also their mother followed.
"i love you," she told her children.
they played a song.
