Over the past few days since crystal's sighting of the ruby cat, they had constantly had to move due to the twoleg 'cat catchers'- as they had named them- and their wire nets and poison darts.

"I think we ditched them!" Chloe told her sister as they crouched underneath some dense green shrubbery next to the monsterway. The twolegs were no longer in sight, and the cats were exhausted and out of breath from running.

"Yeah- I hope..." Crystal panted- her eyes catching something mid-sentence, "so..."

Crystal moved forward and her eyes blazed with disbelief and horror at what she saw.

"Where are you going now?" Chloe asked, irritated.

"Look! Its a kit- in the middle of the mosterway!" Crystal exclaimed, her voice shaking as her pupils shrunk and her ears flattened.

Then she heard it. The distant roar of a monster. She had just enough time to save that kit! Crystal darted forward, but when her sister stood in front of her she growled and got ready to pounce.

"Woah! Are you crazy? You go out there and your crow food! The monsters are out to get us- remember? You can't just run out into the monsterway!" Chloe said, her eyes wide. She knew Crystal was bold, but not plain stupid. That wretched monsterway was a deathtrap: surely her sister knew that.

"Chloe! Its a newborn! I'm going to save it," Crystal sounded confident as she stared over Chloes shoulder at the helpless and immobile kit.

"No your jolly well not! I'm not losing you to some random kit! That monster way is mayhem!" Chloe shouted desperately, trying to persuade her sister to stay put. She stood strong in front of Crystal but her sister had a gleam of pure determination in her eyes, and Chloe knew that if she couldn't persuade her, there would be no stopping her.

"Ah!" Chloe suddenly rasped in pain, dropping to her paws.

What Chloe hadn't expected was the sharp pain which came from her side. It all happened in a matter of moments. One minute she was standing in front of her sister blocking her from certain death, and the next Crystal had scratched her side, not enough to leave a scar, but enough to make her hiss in pain and drop her belly to the ground.

Crystal felt bad about what she had done to her sister, but she needed to save the helpless kit. She advanced briskly toward her target, trying to turn her thought away from her sister and back to the current situation.

She reached the deadly monsterway, but the looming monster was too close now. She would surely get killed if she wasted any more seconds. Without another thought, and in a flash of events she flung herself into the way of the monster, grasped the tiny kit by the scruff of its neck gently with her teeth, and- with all the strength she could summon- flung it into the shrubbery at the side of the monsterway.

But she hadn't got time to move herself out of the way as the monster roared down the Monsterway, straight towards Crystal. Her eyes felt blinded against the bright eyes of it, and this made her disoriented.

Gritting her teeth, She leapt into the air, pushing off with her hind legs, but she wasn't swift enough as the front right hand side of the monster collided at full speed with the tortoiseshell Cat. All Crystal saw was the blinding light of the monster before everything went black.

Chloe watched in utter horror as her sister was hit by the monster. Crystal landed, as if in slow motion, with a thump of dust and leaves on the other side of the monsterway, next to the kit whom she had saved. All Chloe could think to herself was that this was her fault. If only she'd have let Crystal save the kit instead of arguing, this wouldn't have happened!

"No!" Chloe exclaimed, her ears flat and her pupils small as she stared at her sister on the other side of the monsterway.

Ignoring the pain in her side, Chloe limped as quickly as she could over to her sister without hesitation. Crystal had landed on her side, her unharmed side viewable.

"Crystal!" She licked the top of the tortoiseshell's head. As she whispered her sisters name desperately.

"Crystal! Can you hear me!" She pleaded, prodding her paw against her sisters side.

"Crystal please!" She whispered tearily.

She turned the tortoiseshell onto her other side, but one side of her face was covered with red blood. Down her side ran red blood from scratches the cat had obtained when she collided with the monster.
Chloe dipped her head, devastated, and mewed sadly as she shared tongues with her sister for the last time.

She nuzzled her sisters neck, breathing in her woodland scent. This cat had been all that was holding her heart together after her mother had died whilst kitting, but now it seemed she was truly alone. Without Crystal, she didn't know what to do.

She looked over to the kit, who just watched with a sad expression as the she cat said her goodbyes to her sister. It had been such a blur of a day that Chloe hadn't even noticed the sun had set, leaving the stars to dominate the sky.

All of a sudden, a bright light shone from one of the stars and seemed to light up the patch of ground where Crystal's body lay lifelessly...
