"Happy birthday to you...happy birthday to you...happy birthday Kokichi~! Happy birthday to you!" My family sang. I sat and toned the song out, just waiting for the cake. The cake and the super big extra surprise that they said would come afterwards.
The cake was mediocre. I barely had much of an appetite, anyways. After everyone had finished, my parents told me to put on my shoes and that we were leaving. Confused, I followed their orders and walked with them to the car.
It only took a few minutes to arrive at whatever place we're supposed to be. My stepdad took out a blindfold and wrapped it around my eyes, guiding me inside. My mother whispered something to the person behind the counter, and he walked away, returning a few minutes later. My mom thanked him and we went back outside.
"Dad? Dad? Can I see now?" I asked impatiently. He answered my wishes and took the blind fold off and-
"Wh-what is that?!" I yelped, slightly jumping backwards.
"His name is K1-B0, but apparently he likes to be called Kiibo," my mom explained. It was...a robot. He seemed to have wheels underneath his feet so they could push him around with ease.
"C'mon, let's turn him on!" My dad rushed. Mom giggled, pressing a little button on the center of his chest. He made a little vrrrrrp! prrrrrrr sound, and his eyes opened. Much to my surprise, a strand of hair stood up in the middle of his head, and his very long bangs positioned themselves to the side. He blinked a few times, saw me, and smiled.
"Greetings!" Kiibo said, bowing slightly. "I assume you already know my name, but just in case, I am K-"
"Yeah, yeah, I get it," I muttered. It was all... so confusing to me. Suddenly there was this new person in my life and... he belonged to me.
"Anyways, it is my duty to be your friend. Even though I am made to do one specific task, I do have a maturing AI that helps me learn and grow like a normal human being! My creator, Professor Idabashi, will make weekly visits for the first two months to make sure everything is running smoothly. After that, he will make monthly visits for a year. After that, I will be fully independent! You always have the chance to call him if needed." And with that, Kiibo placed his hand over his mouth, made a whirring sound again, and pulled out...a business card with Professor Idabashi's information on it. He handed it to my mother and she didn't hesitate to take it. Weird... It seems they had already met him, which didn't really come as a surprise to me. I mean, didn't they want him to be perfect?
I hesitantly reached out my hand. "M-my name is Kokichi..." I said. He violently shook it, much to my surprise- actually, not really. He seemed very energetic.
"It is nice to finally meet you, Kokichi!" he said with a bright smile. I couldn't help but slightly smile back.
