Mark

The radio has been silent in the past two hours of his shift. Which is quite unusual especially it is only one am. Most of the guys may have doze off already after they spent the entire day for the annual earth quake drill which is required for police officers like him..
As for him, he can't sleep, it has been awhile since he slept soundly. One thing that keeps him awake is the trauma he had last year. As if it was just yesterday when he saw the car wreck that took the life of her beloved sister.
He had heard of stories about the old big tree where a white fairy lives. They say that most of the accident was caused by the fairy who needed maidens whom she'll bring in her kingdom as slaves.
But he knew better, a road engineer has already proposed to shut down the road and reroute it on the other side of the mountain but their problem is that no one will finance such project when only a few lives in the area.
And this might be the reason why only a few chose to live and stay is because of the huge trees that grows on each side of the road that sometimes give you the creeps in the night. But nothing beats the old huge tree.
He will never forget the time, he picked up the call, it was coming from a very familiar voice, the person who he hated so much that he never spoke to since her sister's wedding.
"Mark! Mark! Please help us, it's Alex she is caught in an accident! Please hurry!"
He was stunned by the call he just received. He was not able to talk for a moment.
"Where are you, what happened, how's my sister? Tristan, are you still there?"
"Yes, yes, I'm still here, we're here on the huge tree, near sunset cove."
"What did you do to her?"
"No, I just arrived, please hurry"
Without any hesitation, he reported the accident immediately to his superiors who gave a go signal to rush to the accident scene.
He immediately alerted the fire department and called for an ambulance and medical team to follow. When he arrived, he immediately saw Tristan, trying to wake Alex. The front of the car is totally smashed.
She can see her sister, unconscious drenched in her own blood. He immediately rushed to her side and checked her pulse. She is alive but with a very week pulse.
He can hear the sound of the fire truck and ambulance approaching.
He saw Tristan's car parked without any damage on the other side of the road.
"What happened?"
"She drives all by herself without my knowledge, she wanted to go to the beach early today. When we last talk this afternoon I told her to wait for me and I'll pick her up. "
The firefighters helped in extracting Alex gently out of the wreck as the paramedics put a neck brace and oxygen mask on her. A couple of police officers also arrived at the scene to investigate.
For the initial report that they have gathered, Alex was not wearing her seat belt and her head collided on the stirring wheel that left her unconscious that caused a big cut on her head and face. She had multiple fractures on her legs and most likely on her chest.
The firemen were successful in tearing down the car door and most of front of the car. After six minutes they were able to remove Alex and put her on a stretcher and rush her to the hospital. Tristan went with Alex in the Ambulance and he followed from his police car.
When he arrived at the hospital, Alex is already being treated at the emergency room and was told that she is conscious. The Doctor approached Tristan and inquired if there's anybody who could donate blood for Alex since they don't have available blood with Alex's blood type AB-.
Mark immediately volunteered himself as Alex's brother because he already knew that they have the same blood type. They immediately extracted blood from him since he was told that they need it immediately since they need to perform an emergency operation on Alex who has already lost a lot of blood. He was informed that they may not be able to save her legs as they are both badly damaged.
He told them to do whatever they can to save Alex. He remembered growing up with Alex in sunset cove. He and Tristan were best friends and he always tag along Alex whenever he and Tristan went to Sunset cove.
They had a lot of fun memories together especially with their love for food. Alex was such a great home cook that he could eat anything she serves especially his favorite pastries.
He thought that He and Tristan will pursue their dream to become police officers when he chose to become a chef and Alex followed. So when she decided to work abroad, it broke his heart. He felt being left behind and nobody cared and loved him. Love life is not even his forte, there was once a girl he really like when they were young but she didn't like him since he is bullied as fat. It was only Alex who showed love for him. He was able to get the right body built after he joined the force and became a police officer. A lot of ladies on the area fancy him but nothing interest him. He usually gets gifts sent to his desk and is envied by most of his colleagues. And if she gets any chance to marry someone she'd find someone like her sister, but no one even came close.
Accident happen a lot on the area, he has witnessed a lot ever since he became a police officer. But nothing can compare to the shock he had felt when he saw her sister who is barely alive and saw so much of blood.
The last time they spoke was a week ago when she surprise him for a visit at the police station all alone with all his favorite pastries.
She apologized about her short comings and promised that she will visit him more that she has her own car now and has learned to drive. She even invited him over for their first year Anniversary of their restaurant and even teased him that she will introduce him to one of their chefs.
He was both happy seeing her sister again when she paid him a visit but a bit angry and worried that she drove all alone. He warned and reprimand her about driving on her own. He never thought that his worst fear will happen a week after her visit.
He then waited together with Tristan at the receiving room waiting for Alex. They were both asked and signed a paper of consent to cut both of Alex legs since what is important for them is for Alex to live. But a few minutes after the doctor entered, the doctor informed them of the bad news, that she did not make it. Nothing prepared him for this. He didn't even get the chance to talk to her sister one last time. He cried hard while holding on the patch on his forearm. He would give all the blood he has just to save her only sister.
It is almost dawn and yet he is still awake, today marks the death Anniversary of her sister. He would surely pay her a visit at Tristan's residence. Then all of a sudden the radio came alive and announced of an accident on the old big tree.
