Chapter 11

Saturday dawned. It was still early, but Noh could see that the sun was already rising in the sky, through the blind on his hospital room window. For a few seconds his sleep muddled mind couldn't think straight, and he basked in the luxury of a nice warm bed.

His door opened and nurse Kamala entered, smiling. "Ah, you're awake N'Noh. I'll be going off duty soon, I just want to do your observations if that's okay. It will be one less thing for the day staff to do when they come on duty. How did you sleep? Every time I came in to check on you, you seemed to be sleeping soundly."

The nurse bustled around, getting the blood pressure monitor set up, making sure she had her equipment to hand.

"I slept well thanks nurse, that's the best sleep I've had for ages!"

"That's great Nong, let's hope you continue to get well, then you'll be able to go home. Your Ma is coming home today, isn't she?"

Noh couldn't stop grinning. "She is, P'Ann came in last night and she confirmed Ma was on her way home. P'Ann will pick her up from the airport this morning and bring her straight here. It feels like months since I saw my parents. My Pa is staying on in Liverpool for a couple more days, just to complete their business deal, but then he'll be home as well." Noh sighed. "It will be good to get back to normal again."

Nurse Kamala finished Noh's obs. and began clearing away. "I'm so happy you're beginning to feel a bit better N'Noh, but don't forget you have been through a terrible ordeal, you'll need physiotherapy soon to get you walking again, and we need to see that you are beginning to eat a bit more, to build up your strength." The nurse could see her patient was looking a bit deflated by her words. She reached over and patted Noh's hand.

"Sorry N'Noh, I didn't mean to upset you, but you'll need to take it slowly and surely, we don't want any relapses, do we? I know you've got lots of family and friends who want you home, but they want you well first and foremost don't they?"

Noh understood what nurse Kamala meant, and he smiled at her. "I know nurse, Phun was saying that last night, "Noh, you need to walk before you can run," he's such a nag!" The nurse could tell by the huge smile and pink cheeks on the young man, that he didn't think his boyfriend was a nag at all!

"Well I think he's very sensible, you make sure you take heed of his advice!" Still grinning, Noh nodded to the nurse, and she pushed the equipment trolley towards the door and giving a friendly wave, she left.

Noh could hear plenty of activity going on outside his room, he had soon discovered that Hospitals weren't quiet places, and soon after, his door opened again and nurse Jen and a new nurse breezed in.

"Morning N'Noh! You're looking a lot brighter today. This is nurse Pat, you haven't met her yet I don't think?" Noh shook his head. "Pat, this is my favourite patient, N'Noh. He's had a rough time, but he's beginning to improve now."

Nurse Pat smiled. "Nice to meet you Nong, Jen keeps talking about you, I was looking forward to meeting you!" Noh could feel his cheeks turning pink, and just smiled.

"Now Nong, we've come to see if you feel able to get in the shower today?" Noh's eyes widened, a moment of panic passed through him. The nurse laughed. "Don't worry, we've got special equipment to help, and we'll be there to make sure you don't come to any harm."
