Chapter 5

Monae

Today is Brandy's birthday. She said she wanted to see all of her family so we're having her a party. "Am I having a brother or another sister?", Brandy asked as I put her hair into two buns.

"You're gonna have another sister.", I said.

"Good."

"Remember, if you need to take a break from everybody and don't wanna be alone all you have to do is tell mommy or daddy."

"Okay.", she said.

Quantez

Monae just ran to the store to grab something so I'm pretty much watching over everything.

As I looked around and talked to my cousin Brandy walked up to me. "Daddy?", she asked lowly. I think she needs a break.

"Aye imma holla at you later, watch over everything for me.". I said to my cousin before shaking his hand.

"A'ight, I got you.", he said.

"Come on princess.", I said holding out my hand. She grabbed it and we walked in the house to her room. She sat on her bed and I sat on the floor across from her. "What's up princess?", I asked. She shrugged her shoulders as she looked down. Man this ain't my little girl. I gotta get her back. "Talk to me princess.", I said.

"I feel weird.", she said not looking up. "I thought I wanted to see everybody but I don't. Do that make me a bad person?"

"No princess, it don't. I'll tell everybody to leave and when you're ready you can see them again."

"Okay, thank you."

We're sitting in her room in silence. "Daddy I'm sorry for using the bathroom on the floor yesterday.", she said looking down.

"It's okay princess, I understand. Just know I won't hurt you. I promise.", I said.

Monae

Brandy screaming woke us up. We got out of bed and ran to her room. When I made it I saw Quan holding her and rubbing her back as she cried. I really wanted to cry man. She's hurting, bad.

As Quan rubbed her back she started screaming and hitting herself. We held her hands. She kept wiggling to get down so Quan put her down. She backed away crying then fell to the floor. We walked to her and sat by her. "Where were you daddy?", she cried. "I kept calling you but you didn't come. You were supposed to stop them from hurting me daddy.", she cried looking at him. I looked at Quan and his eyes were watery.

"I'm sorry Brandy.", Quan said with a crack in his voice. "I didn't do my job. I didn't protect you and you got hurt. I'm so so sorry. I never wanted this to happen.", he said before crying. "Please forgive me.", he cried looking down. She walked on her knees to him and hugged him, he hugged her back and they cried holding each other. Seeing both of them hurt is hurting me. I started silently crying.

After a little bit I sniffed making him look at me then open his arm. I went over there and we all hugged. "We're gonna get through this, as one.", I said.
