“You have to what!” Tristian shouted down the phone. I had totally forgotten he was still on the line. He voice reminded me of what I would miss when they sent me back home. It wouldn’t be safe for Tristian and I to stay down here anymore. Where would Tristian and his family go? Not to Hell surely! How would they cope? “Aria are you ok? Tristian asked as I realised I was hyperventilating “yes,” I managed to get out. “I don’t want to leave you...” I said. I suddenly realised that I was crying, I felt like something was missing from my heart. “Who said anything about leaving?” Tristian asked. “Well if anyone finds out about me then its breaking the code and it’s not safe to stay down here anymore.” I explained. All I heard down the phone was silence before Tristian said “I can’t bear to see you leave after you have only just arrived.” Then the call ended. I didn’t know what to do. Should I prepare to leave I went downstairs to Irin who must have heard the whole conversation as she stood with a sorrowful expression. “I’m sorry,” she said “I knew how much this meant to you.” I shrugged “I knew this would happen someday, it will never be safe for someone from another world to live here. Everyone is too nosey.” I replied. It looked like Irin could do no more so I ran up to my room and threw myself onto the bed.
I woke up the next morning by a call from Tristian. “Hi Tristian,” I said. I couldn’t bear to hear his voice knowing it might be the last time I hear it. “I’ve fixed it!” he cried. I was stunned for a moment before answering “you did what?” I cried out so loud that Irin came running up the stairs “how?” I asked snuffling away the tears “I know a guy,” he replied “who can erase memories.” I was shocked. “You erased their memories!” I screamed down the phone so loud Irin came sprinting up the stairs. “Why would you do that?” I was so angry how he could do such a thing. “You never let me finish,” he answered. “We deleted the picture and erased any trace of the picture from people memories, that’s all we erased.” How could he think that it’s ok, when people can’t remember what they were doing all lunch yesterday, or what they were looking at on Facebook that night? Erasing people’s memories can’t lead to serious after effects and I knew it. “b-but…” I stammered. “What have you put in to replace those memories?” I asked. “Replace them?” he asked “I just erased them, I didn’t replace them.” I was shocked how they could miss out the most vital part of memory erasing! “if you erase a memory you need to replace it with one close enough to the one you erased otherwise they will think they have gone crazy when they can’t remember what they did last night. Who is this friend the devil or something? You messed up those people’s memories Tristian!” I said as calmly as I could. I knew coming to this town would mess everything up. For his family as well as Irin and I. “erm actually,” I heard Tristian say. “That thing about the devil… I’m sorry I thought you would have had to go so I found who ever would do it… even if it meant hiring a devil who wanted to mess up people’s memories...” I was shocked that he would do such a thing.
In school Tristian and I went to school together. “Tristian?” I asked. He nodded in response. “How many people’s memories did tamper with?” “I gave him a picture of everyone in the school to check whether or not they saw the photo.” He replied. “Are you sure the picture was all he erased?” I asked as we walked past a new stand. I pulled Tristian’s hand to the nearest newspaper and read the front page out loud:
