|To remember|

It was in the middle of summer when Danna went to the park, her new foster parents leaving her in the playground by herself as they pulled out their phones and muttered to their desperate clients at the other end of the phone.

For a small child no older than ten to be alone, watching with longing as the other small children played with their friends or parents was very painful to watch, the little girl felt as if she was in the dark, all alone.

She jumped off the bench, knowing that her new parents haven't even noticed her doing so and crawled over to where there was fresh green grass.

Then all of a sudden a yellow tennis ball rolled over to her, stopping once it hit her pale leg, she grabbed the ball with curiosity and looked for its owner just as a Labrador sprinted towards her with its pink tongue sticking out.

It barked once it reached her and wagged it's tail, bouncing Infront of her in full excitement, Danna wanted to touch it, to feel the soft fur under her fragile skin but remembered what her foster parents had warned her about.

"Never touch or go near those filthy things"
She sobered from her short term happiness and stood up, feeling the grass tickle her skin nearly making her smile again.

A boy came to view, a bright smile on his face that nearly made her want to return it and he caressed the excited dog as if to tell him to calm down, the dog only jumped higher and barked loudly.

"Sorry, Max gets too excited sometimes, can we have our ball back please?" The boy muttered kindly, a hand thrown in her direction.

Danna nodded silently and handed him the ball, sitting back onto the grass with a sad look on her face, looking at the dog as her fingers twitched to touch him.

The boy noticed this and with a small blush he walked up to her, tilting his head.

"W-would you like to play with us? It kinda gets boring with just me and Max" He almost whispered nervously, gulping when he met her unsure eyes.

Danna looked back on her parents with hesitation, noticing that they were still on their phones and nodded a yes back to the boy.

It wouldn't hurt to play with them just once.

"Great!" He grabbed her hand and dragged her to where Max was, running across the fields of grass.

That day it was filled with joy and fun, the boy whose name Danna learned was Eliot promised that he would come to the park everyday in search of her so they could play.

And at they did.

(Back to present)

Lilith and Sam looked at their foster daughter with sadness, watching her small figure on the hospital bed as a mask covered her face, her hair sprawled on the bed sheets. She lay very still as a corpse, her skin marked with ugly bruises and scabs.

Lilith held a sob as she covered her mouth with her hands.

"Who could do this Sam? Who could do this horrible thing" Lilith pointed to where the neck brace covered Danna's neck.
