Recovery Stay

Throughout Emma's hospital stay, she was mostly in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit with her daughter. Killian brought Henry to school and returns to the hospital. Emma was with Hope in the NICU. She did not want to leave Hope's side. Emma would sing to her, talk to her and hold her hand or foot when Hope was sleeping in her incubator. "Mommy is right here, Hope. You are not alone. You are not going to be alone like I was as a child until I had your big brother." Killian returns to his two loves. He kisses Emma on the head. "How is our little lass?" "Sleeping." Hope monitors began to beep. "Nurse Jane, my daughter..." The nurses rush and open the incubator and check on Hope's lungs. Killian was holding onto his wife. "She needs a new oxygen tube to improve her lung development.""Can I hold her?""Yes, you can, Emma." She puts Hope in her Mommy's arms. "Hope, you are with Mommy, baby girl. You stopped breathing scaring Mommy and Daddy." She gave Hope kisses on her head. "Hi, Hope. Dada is here." He let Hope hold his hook. "You are my little pirate Hope. When you get bigger, I will give you and Henry a sailing lesson together.""How is Henry? I have been focusing on Hope, I...""He is at school, love. He knows that Hope needs you, love." The nurse returns with Dr.Smith. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Jones. I heard that Hope is stopped breathing.""Yes. She scared her Mommy and Daddy." She hugs her daughter""I need to change her nose tube to a vapotherm nose tube ." Emma puts Hope back in her incubator, "Mommy is staying right next to you, baby girl." Dr. Smith puts the vapotherm tube on Hope's nose and mouth, which made Hope cry in the incubator. "Hopey, it is okay." She rubs her daughter's hand. "Mommy is here..shh..shh. You are okay.." "She will be adjusted to her new oxygen nose tube soon."Emma's heart was breaking seeing her daughter in pain. "Poor baby..." She sits next to her daughter. "Mommy is here...Mommy is here...you are okay. You are brave and strong just like Mommy. Dada is here too." Hope stopped crying. "Your big brother will tell you stories later. I can tell you stories, we can have Mommy and Hopey talk right now. "Killian looked at his wife focusing on their little lass. "Dr. Smith, when can we take Hope home?" "We want to make sure Hope's lungs are fully formed, in a few weeks in the middle of November.""You mean we can take her home when she was supposed to arrive?""Exactly, Hope came early but she will come home on the week she was supposed to be born.""She won't need oxygen at home right?""Yes, Killian. He sits next to his wife who was in tears, "Hope is going to be strong love." Emma rubbed Hope's hand until she fell asleep. "Mommy is here." Emma noticed he was still next to her, looking at their daughter. "Daddy is here, little love. You are being very brave, Hope." He rubs Hope's foot. I am calling to check on you." Emma smiles. Henry traveled by subway to NYU Hospital after school, his Dad taught him the route and give him a MetroCard. Henry went to his Mom's hospital room and saw her sleeping. He left his backpack on the chair and kisses his Mom on the head knowing she needed to rest. Emma wakes up, "Hey, kid.""Hi, Mom." He sits next to his Mom and hugs her. "How was your day?""It was good. I did my homework before I came here and took the subway here.""You took the subway?""Yes, Dad taught me. Henry put scrubs on and washed his hands after his Mom did. They can hear Hope crying and see Killian trying to calm down Hope. "Swan, Hope is hungry. She was trying to eat from me. I do not have her milk and she got very upset." Emma giggled and takes Hope from her husband."Hope, Mommy is here with your milk. Do not cry. Dada does not have your food, I know. Mommy has your milk." She sits down on the rocking chair and nurses Hope who was very hungry and latched on right away and stopped crying. "Hope, your food is not going anywhere, it is all for you." She rubs Hope's head as she ate. "Dad, how was skin to skin with Hope?""She was sleeping most of the time and loved moving around, like your Mom." Emma chuckled."How was traveling here by yourself?""It was good no train delays and you taught me the route. I did not get lost." After Hope was nursed and burped, "Hope, Henry is here to spend time with you." Hope coos. Emma gets up holding her daughter letting Henry sit down, "Henry, she will listen to you even if she cannot talk just yet." She hands Hope to her son. "Hi, Hope. It is me, Henry, your big brother." Hope looks up at her big brother. "I know you had a rough day, I am sorry about that but I know you will get through this. Mommy and Daddy had rough childhoods and they made through rough times. You will make through your rough time but you are not alone, you have our Mommy, Daddy and me your big brother on your side." Hope makes poop. "Hope, that is a lot of poop"Emma chuckles. "Kid, I can change her." She takes Hope from her son. "Hope, did you just made a lot of poopy?" Hope began to cry. "I know you want to be clean.""Love, I can change her." She changes Hope into a clean diaper and changes Hope into the onesie that Henry and Killian created for her. "Hope, you are in your first outfit baby girl." Hope coos, Emma clap Hope's hands, "Yay for your first outfit." Hope smiles. Killian took pictures of Hope in her first outfit on his iPhone. "Yes, you love your first outfit ." She holds Hope on her chest. Hope squirms. "You want your big brother?" "Mom, I can hold her." She puts her daughter in her son's arms."Just make sure Hope has her oxygen tube in her nose." Killian walks his wife back to her room. Emma began to cry knowing it was her last night before getting discharged. Killian just engulfs her into a hug, she cried into him all of the fear and all that is happening to their daughter. "How can I leave her here overnight when I get discharged? She cannot be alone especially now...I am her mother, I am supposed to be there for our daughter...""Emma, we are going to visit Hope every day during visiting hours. You are going to be holding her the whole time because I know that Hope will miss you the most when we go home tomorrow.""I just want to be a good mother.""You are an amazing mother to both of our children, Emma. "You just wanted your Mommy to hold you." Hope coos and moves around. She puts Hope on her chest and hugged her little girl and gave her kisses on her head. Killian smiles at his swan being an amazing Mommy to Hope. She sits down on the rocking chair with Hope who cooing. "Little love, you are happy to be with your Mommy?" Hope smiles. "Aye, you have the best Mommy ever." He rubs Hope's little cheek and gave Hope kisses. "Mom, I had a feeling Hope wanted you. The nurses and I could not calm down, Hope. She is happy being held by you." Emma smiles. "She just wants to be held by me. How was she when you were holding her?""We talked until she fell asleep in my arms. She sleeps a lot but in a cute way." "I just know your sister will be sleeping a lot during the daytime. It is me and your Dad's job to teach her how to sleep during the night time." Hope coos. "Love, are you in pain?" Emma nods her head no. He sits next to his wife and holds her hand. "We are going to visit her, love. You are not leaving Hope for good." Emma cried into him. "You are not abandoning our little lass. She is in the best hospital, with doctors and nurses taking good care of her. She can have visitors, I have a feeling you will be here every day visiting her.""I do not want to leave, Hope.""I know, Emma. I will drive you here every day so you can be with our daughter. We can take turns visiting Hope. I know Henry needs his Mom too. Where is the lad?""He is visiting Hope. Emma wakes up a few hours later in Killian's arms and Henry was in his usual spot on the couch passed out. She gets out of bed and kisses Henry on the head. She pumps her breast milk for her daughter and slowly walked to the NICU to see Hope. Hope was wide awake cooing, "Hi, Hope." Hope turns around and smiles at her Mommy. "Mommy is right here." She gave Hope her finger which she grips instantly. Emma noticed that her umbilical cord is out. "Hope, I see your belly button. It is so cute." She tickles Hope's belly. Hope's nurse, Jane comes by "Emma, Hope can take her first bath today since her umbilical cord is out. You can give her her bath."Emma smiles, "I would love to. I also am here to give you extra milk supply for Hope. I am being discharged today." Hope coos. "I know it will be hard for you to go home without Hope. You will bring her home soon, I just know it." "I will give you my number just call me or text me if anything happens..""I will. Hope will be here where she is getting the care she needs." She takes the milk labeled Hope Jones in the front to the refrigerator. "Hope, did you have fun talking to your big brother last night?" Hope moved her legs. "You talked to him so much. He will always talk to you when you come home. You and I will be snuggling and talking a lot. I just know it." Emma takes Hope out of her incubator. Hope gripped her Mommy's chest as Emma gave her daughter kisses on her blonde head. Killian found his wife in the NICU holding Hope, he took pictures of Emma holding their little daughter. Nurse Jane leads the Swan-Jones family to the bathing section and taught them how to clean Hope, Emma bath Hope. Killian took pictures. Hope was cooing while getting wet. "Hope, bathtime is over, baby girl." She dries off Hope, carefully with the oxygen tubes in her nose. "Swan, Hope wants her Daddy.""She is dried off and needs a clean diaper." Killian changes Hope into a clean diaper. "Little love, do not cry. You will have bath time again." Hope grabs her Daddy's hook, while her Mommy lotioned her up. "Love, we are giving Hope a spa treatment." Emma giggles. Henry finds his parents with his sister bringing Hope a new outfit. "Mom, Dad, I brought Hope a new outfit." "Thanks, kid." She looks at the onesie, a white onesie with Jolly Roger, hooks and hooks on them. "Henry, is this another one you and Dad made?""Yes." "It is perfect." Emma changes Hope into a new onesie. "There you go, Hope. You are all clean and in a new outfit." She holds Hope in her arms and gave her kisses on her head until Hope began to cry. "Hope, are you hungry? Mommy will feed you." Emma brings Hope back to her spot and sits down on the rocking chair, and breastfeeds Hope; who latched on right away. "You are Mommy's good girl, Hope. A nurse pushes Emma through the halls in the wheelchair. "I need to stop at the NICU, our son is with our daughter." They find Henry talking to Hope. "Henry, it is time for us to leave.""Hope, I will visit you with our Mommy. Pretty soon, we will bring you home." Henry hands over to their Mom. "Hi, baby girl. Did you have a good long talk with your big brother?" Hope coos. "Your brother is awesome." Hope grips her Mommy's blonde lock. "Hope, when your hair is longer, I will teach you how to braid your hair. I know so many hairstyles. We can match. Hope, I have to go home...but I will visit you tomorrow." She kisses Hope on her forehead. "I am not leaving you forever. You need hospital care so when you can go home you will be healthy. I am going to be here every day and we can snuggle." Hope placed her hand on her Mommy's face, "I love you too, Hope. I am going to get updates from your nurse all the time. I made sure you have enough of Mommy's milk." She gave Hope kisses on her cheek. Hope coos. Killian knew Emma does not want to leave their daughter. "Killian, Hope wants her Daddy." Killian takes Hope into his arms. "Hi, little love." Hope grips her Daddy's hook. "You are my little pirate. Yes, you are." Hope coos. "Hope, Daddy has to take Mommy home to rest. Daddy, Mommy, and Henry are going to visit you every day. Be a good little lass for the nurses. When you get stronger, we will take you home." Hope coos, Killian smiles. Hope yawns. "Aye, it is your naptime." He kisses his little lass on the head and puts Hope back in her incubator. Emma lets Hope hold her finger. "You have a strong grip, Hope." Hope chews on her Mommy's finger, which made Emma smile. "Hope, Daddy has something for you." He takes out a small plush doll of a duckling. Emma was in tears Hope's plush toy was a symbol of her past and her favorite story as a child, Killian chose this plush doll to represent Hope her past. "Killian...""As soon as you told me that you were having our child, I bought this for our little duckling. Also, since Hope needs a little company while she is here without us.""Let's see if she likes it. Hope, Daddy got you a little friend." Killian gives Hope her duckling plush, "Look little love. A duckling." Hope grips her toy, which makes her parents smile. "Daddy got this because you are Mommy's little duckling." Emma smiles. "Your duckling will keep you company until Mommy, Daddy, and Henry visit you." Hope coos, as her Daddy puts her first toy next to her."Dad, she loves it." "Aye, I have a feeling she will love it." "Mom, Hope has her baby blanket from me and her first toy from Dad.""That is right, Henry. Hope will be warm and has company with her." Hope falls asleep. "Love, I will drive you here tomorrow." Emma was crying. "Can you give nurse Jane, a few more of milk for Hope?""Aye, I can do that." Killian finds nurse Jane. Henry hugs his Mom. "Mom, we are not leaving Hope forever. The nurse pushes Emma's wheelchair, Henry holding his Mom's hand. Killian holds Hope's foot. "Hope, we will see you tomorrow, little love. Enjoy your new toy. I love you so much, Hope." Killian catches up with his wife and son. He gets the yellow bug and load Emma's hospital bag and drove to the entrance, Henry was hugging his Mom. Killian helped his wife into the car and drove his family home. "We are going to bring Hope home soon, love." They held hands. When they arrived home, Henry unloaded the car as Killian helped his wife out of the car and entered the apartment. Emma hugs Killian. "You need to sleep, love.""I am tired."
