As they were walking, (well, Grace was walking, Alex was being dragged), out of the shop, Alex stumbled and tripped. She a braced herself for the impact but instead, found herself in a strong pair of arms.
She looked up and stared in shock. It was the blonde teen from her dream that morning, standing right in front of her!
"Well it looks like you've fallen for me" he quipped, not noticing the startled look on her face.
He held her in his arms for several seconds until Grace tugged on his sleeve as a signal for him to let go of Alex. He set Alex back on her feet and took a step back.
"Thanks for catching me," said Alex with a small smile.
"Thanks for being such a catch," he replied with a wink.
"I'm Alexandria, Alex for short,"
"I'm Jacob, Jake for short"
"And I'm Grace!" said Grace with longing in her voice. "Can we go now?"
"Well, I'm sure this won't be our last time seeing each other Alex" said Jake, walking away with a charming look written on his face.
Grace grabbed Alex's hand and led her away from Daniel. They walked to the food court where Alex ordered an array of food, enough to feed her whole family. Between her and Grace, who was hungry enough to eat a bear, they finished their meal quickly.
When they were done it was 3:00 and they had about an hour and a half left, because it took about 30 minutes to get back to their house. They walked to Grace's favorite store, Forever 21.
Alex found Grace an adorable candy floss pink dress with perfectly placed ruffles decorating the entire dress. Grace skipped to the change room where Alex handed her another dress, a soft white one with light turquoise-green stripes. The neckline was rounded and higher than the pink dress. While Grace was putting the first dress on, Alex found a cute dress similar to the white and turquoise one Grace had, but with spaghetti straps and a flared skirt going down to about her knees.
She went back to the change rooms where Grace was just stepping out of the door. Alex pointed two thumbs up, as Grace looked adorable in the pink, and Grace turned to go back into the miniature room. She tried on the second dress for Alex to see, and it fit perfectly. Grace smiled and twirled in a circle. Alex whistled and Grace grinned wider.
As Grace stepped back into the changing room, Alex to the opportunity to try on the dress she had found. Stepping out, a curious Grace stood waiting. Grace started laughing, when realizing it matched her own dress. They went up to the cashier where Alex paid for the dresses.
After they walked out if the store, Alex remembered she needed a formal dress for her only Aunt's wedding the next weekend. Alex and her mother were the only females in the wedding party other than the bride, so she could pick out whatever she pleased. Her aunt was a very free flowing spirit, so she just accepted whatever came to her. Everything suited her just fine. Their mom would get her dress after Alex, to match, so she was to just go wild with colours.
Walking to the nearest formal dress store, Grace rushed in. After a few minutes of scattered gathering, she passed a few dresses and ordered her to go try them on.
Alex took the dresses from Grace and walked into an empty change room. She slipped the first dress on.
It was strapless and flowed out past the waist to about ankle lenth. It was dyed a soft red and had tiny silver rhinestones along the bottom and top.
She walked out of the change room where Grace was talking to Sarah, Alex's other half. She had known Sarah since they were both in the cradle. Every day their mothers had met up, so they could play together while they talked about the troubles of being a single mom. Since then they had stuck like glue, fast and solid, working their way through stages of life.
Alex cleared her throat and Sarah ran up, with Grace not far behind.
"Turn!" Grace sternly ordered .
Alex did a quick twirl and both of them cheered. Grace help up her hand for a hi-five and Sarah slapped it with her own. They shooed Alex back into the change room where she tried on the next dress.
It was mid-calf lenth, with small cut-outs in the side, lined with gems, showing Alex's tanned skin. The straps were just barely there, thin straps more for decoration than purpose. The base color was a creamy white with large salmon, peach, and turquoise decorative flowers clumped in a unique random pattern.
She once again strode out where Grace and Sarah were waiting for her. Grace motioned for her to turn. Grace and Sarah smiled and nodded at each other, then shooed Alex once again back into the dimly lit room. She picked up the next dress and braced herself.
Alex groaned as she held the next dress. The dress she had picked up was once again ankle-length, bright material girl pink and one of the most glittery things she had ever seen in her life. It had thicker straps, about the width of two or three fingers, and had sparkles all over the bodice. Accompanying the sparkles, a bedazzled belt was clasped around the middle, adding more bling to the already over the top gown.
She slowly opened the change room door with Grace and Sarah waiting patiently on chairs positioned near the change rooms
"Grace like!" Grace enthusiastically cheered
"Sarah like too!" said Sarah in a similar manner.
Alex spun around and Grace giggled.
Alex walked back to the change room, took off the dress she had in and picked up the next dress. She looked at the dress and gasped.
"Grace really knows her stuff," she murmered.
It was made out of beautiful shimmering golden fabric, with a sweetheart neckline, lacing up the back with thin golden ribbon, falling past Alex's knees to the floor. This time she was the one giggling as she examined herself in the mirror. She twisted and turned to every angle, admiring the soft sparkling of the dress in the dim light.
"Come out already!" shouted an aggravated Sarah, while Grace tried in vain to shush her.
"I'm coming, I'm coming," called Alex.
She stepped outside the door and both girls gasped. Several boys had wandered past the store, but quickly stopped to look at her. She blushed and did a small spin.
"That's the one!" Sarah cheered, as Grace tried once again to quiet her.
The strangers outside the window continued on their way as Alex stepped back into the change room. She hesitantly slipped off the dress and put her own clothes back on.
She gathered up the dresses and walked out of the room. She held up the options for Sarah and Grace to look at, and they both quickly pointed at the golden one. She passed the rest of the dresses to a employee and walked up to the counter. She payed for the dress with her debit card and walked out happily with Grace, Sarah, and a new shopping bag.
