The Gathering

"Rosepaw, wake up. You're in a patrol, and you're going to a Gathering later," a voice whispered in my ear. It was Woodstar. For a few seconds, I wondered why she was in the apprentice den, and why some other cat wasn't telling me this. Then I remembered. Woodstar was my mentor! I opened my eyes to find Woodstar standing above me. "Come on," she whispered, padding out of the den. I got out of my moss pile, and followed her. There was a patrol waiting for me, just like Woodstar had said. There was Ivypaw, Skyfeather, Greyclaw and Sandflight. Skyfeather smiled at me, while Sandflight looked bored out of her mind. "Let's go," Greyclaw said once I joined the patrol.

After a while of being on the border, I spotted a ginger shape in the trees. It was in ThreeRocks, so I couldn't attack it, but I decided to keep and eye on it. It started to creep away, and eventually I stopped watching it. But soon after the shape had crept off, I heard two cats yowling. I sprinted over, and found that the ginger shape was a cat, and it was attacking Sandflight, who, was great at hunting, was honestly rather soft. I leapt on the cat's back, and bit its neck. It screeched, and stopped for a few seconds, giving Sandflight time to scratch its face. The cat shrugged me off, and fled. Sandflight stared at me in awe. I grinned at her, and mewed, "Bluepaw taught me to fight when I was a kit by smacking me." Sandflight smiled, and her eyes flickered with amusement.

After the patrol, I saw Sandflight pad up to Woodstar's den, and guessed she was going to tell her how I fought the ginger cat. I decided to just ignore it and get some fresh-kill. I sat by the pile, and ate a rabbit, waiting for Woodstar to come over. I had almost finished my rabbit when Woodstar did come over, but I didn't mind. "Sandflight tells me you fought like a warrior again," she said, searching through the fresh-kill pile. "Maybe it's time you become one,"she continued as she found a plump vole. I looked up at her, and she smiled. "I know you've only just been apprenticed, but I don't want you to stay an apprentice when you have the potential of a warrior. Your ceremony shall be at Sun-up tomorrow"  I stared at her, searching her eyes for a joking glint. But it wasn't there.

"Time for the Gathering, Rosepaw" a voice in my ear whispered. Woodstar. I opened my eyes. "Come on," she said, padding out just like at dawn. I got up from my moss pile, and wandered out of the den. There were warriors waiting for me, with Bluepaw as well. They started walking as soon as they saw me, and I followed.

When we got to Fourtrees, Whitestar, Darkstar and Leafstar were already there. Woodstar went up beside them, and greeted them all. They gossiped for a while, and I went over to a nice-looking she-cat with white fur. "Hi," I mewed. She turned to look at me, and smiled. "Hi," she grinned. "I'm Splashpaw. What's your name?" She continued. "I'm Rosepaw. What Clan are you? " I asked. "I'm in WaterClan," Splashpaw answered. "And you're in WoodClan." I looked at her curiously. "I saw you come with Woodstar," she explained. "What's-" She was cut off by Whitestar calling out to the cat's below her. "Cats of all Clans. As you know, Waterstar sadly died a moon or so ago," she paused, and looked down, memories flooding into her head. "We of course grieve and remember him in honour. But now,  I am the leader of WaterClan, and we are proud to announce our new deputy, Blueheart." She glanced down at Blueheart, who puffed out his chest proudly. Whitestar stepped back, allowing the other leaders to speak. Woodstar stepped forward. "Cats outside of WoodClan may not feel the grieve and pain my Clan felt, but you must know that Mouseheart, one of our most loyal warriors, has sadly passed," she explained. I froze. Was Woodstar going to expose Raveneye in front of all the Clans? "She was killed. And we know who did it," Woodstar's voice had become bitter. "Raveneye," she spat. Every cat looked round at him, shocked. "Nonsense!" Darkstar had stepped forward. "I'm afraid so, Darkstar," Woodstar said calmly. "I'm have proof," she turned to me, gesturing for me to come next to her. I did so, and a cat who I guessed to be Raveneye's mother cried, "She's an apprentice!" I took a deep breath, and called out, "It is true. Raveneye killed my older sister. We were out hunting, and he was on our territory, and I started to go back to camp, and I looked back and found her dead, with Raveneye standing over her, grinning," I looked at the shocked faces around me. Darkstar was staring at Raveneye, disgusted. "Raveneye," he spat. "You have disobeyed the warrior code. You killed a cat, without a feeling of vengeance. This means you shall be exiled from our Clan, and we forbid you from using the name Raveneye whilst you are a rogue. Now leave, and never dare to come back." He turned to me. "Thank you," he mewed. I blinked at him to say 'You're welcome' and went back to where  was sitting with Splashpaw.

After the Gathering, I slept until I heard a whisper in my ear. "Time to be a warrior," I leaped up, and rushed to the FallenTree without looking who had woken me up. Woodstar stood on the FallenTree, pride in her eyes. "Rosepaw," she mewed. "You have fought like a warrior twice whilst you have been an apprentice, with without any training. Do you promise to defend the Clan no matter what, even at the cost of your life?" I nodded. "Then I give you your warrior name. You shall now be known as Roseclaw, warrior of WoodClan." I smiled proudly. "This meeting is dismissed," Woodstar announced, leaping off the FallenTree.
