I stayed up for hours trying to figure out what these creatures weaknesses were. I looked through countless websites and online books and still I came up with nothing. Around three AM Lydia called me in a panic.
"Help me stiles.. Help me they're going to kill me stiles..."
I didn't know what to make of this. I jumped up, ran downstairs and got in my car, I didn't even bother to put shoes on. I drove to her house. The door was locked. I couldn't pick it so I did the next best thing. I kicked it open. I ran up the stairs and heard Lydia screaming. Not just anyone scream, it was her famous banshee scream. At this point I could infer that she wasn't dying, but most likely feeling someone else was about to.
I went into her room to find her on the floor with her hands over her ears, still screaming. I picked her up and held her in front of me. I wasn't sure if I should let her continue or if I should stop it. This could give us some valuable clues if it's a victim of the Occaeco or even an Occaeco himself.
After a few seconds I couldn't stand to hear her suffer so I jerked her hard.
"Lydia! Lydia!"
Eventually she stopped, looking around as if she had woken up from a dream. "It's death.." She muttered
"What is?"
"I saw it. It's like.. I could see into his mind... The Occaeco."
I helped her onto her bed and sat her down. "Can you tell me what happened?" She nodded and gathered her thoughts. "He was scared, petrified in fact. Nothing scared him more then death."
I thought it over for a minute. The Occaeco were ancient creatures, most lightly hunted and killed for their ways. What if that's what they feared? Death.
"Yes," Lydia said, as if reading my mind, "they fear punishment, death being the worse kind... They're odd creatures." I nodded in agreement.
"I'm sorry I dragged you here in the middle of the night.. My mom is out of town with some friends and I didn't know who else to call-"
I cut her off, "I'm glad to help you when you need me.. Any time you need me."
Lydia seemed relived by this. She leaned against her bed and took a deep breath.
We Ended up sleeping on the floor the whole night. She had a thick carpet so it wasn't to bad. In the morning I found our hands intertwined. I smiled and laid there, enjoying this moment that would never come again.
Eventually sleeping beauty woke up.
"Mmm... The floor isn't too bad." Lydia stood up and went downstairs, I followed her. "I'll make breakfast," she turned to oven on.
I sat on the sofa and thought about the dream Lydia had.
The creatures fear punishment.. That's their weakness. I wondered how much of how little punishment they could take. That's when an idea brewed in my mind.
I texted Allison and Scott to come to Lydia's house ASAP.
"Lydia you may want to make extras."
