"A babysitter? For you two? Classic!"
After the pervious night's incident with Jane, Mrs Morgan insisted on hiring a babysitter and Benny, being Benny, just had to take the piss. Why he felt the need to announce it as they walked into high school on their very first day of freshman year, was a mystery to Ariel.
"Shh! Keep it down!" The shorter girl hissed, punching Benny in the arm and making him wince.
"Yeah, this kind of info could totally ruin mine and Ariel's rep!" Ethan said. Rep? Ariel wasn't aware they even had a rep considering they'd been in high school for a total of two minutes.
"Besides, it's not for us, it's for Jane." Ariel continued.
"Well, on the positive side, one of these premo high school babes could totally be at your house tonight," Benny said to Ethan and Ariel suddenly felt left out of the conversation, "Hey, hot stuff." He winked at one of the girls that walked by. Ariel felt a dull pang of jealousy settle in the pit of her stomach and hated herself for it. Benny flirted with pretty much every girl he came in contact with, he always had done, Ariel knew she shouldn't let it bother her so much, but she couldn't help it. However, what Ariel failed to pick up on was the way Benny kept glancing at her, searching for any sign of jealousy on the girl's face. What she didn't know was the only reason the green eyed boy flirted with any girl he could was because he was trying to figure out whether Ariel felt for him the same way he did for her and he figured that her reaction towards him flirting with other girls would give him some kind of answer.
When Benny didn't find any negative emotions evident on Ariel's face, his shoulders slumped in defeat. While she did in fact hate it when Benny hit on other girls right in front of her, she had gotten exceptionally good at hiding her feelings after so many years of feeling this way and acting like nothing was wrong.
"Dude!" Ethan hit Benny in the shoulder, which Ariel was thankful for as she, too, was one step away from punching Benny again.
"What?!" The boy in the striped hoodie cried defensively.
"Anyway, all we know is her name is Erica and she goes to this school." Ariel said, desperate to change the topic.
"With any luck, we can talk our parents out of it by tonight." Ethan added and she nodded in agreement.
"Oh, hey, Principal Hicks, let me give you a hand," A tall, pale guy dressed in all black caught the trio's attention as he walked up to the principal, who was putting up posters about some missing kid, and took his coffee out of his hand.
"Oh, thank you, Jesse. Much better." Principal Hicks smiled gratefully as he finished sticking the poster to the wall.
"Anything for our fearless leader," The guy, apparently named Jesse, smirked as he held up the coffee, "Do you mind?" Before Hicks had a chance to answer, he took a sip of the hot beverage, "Ah, french roast."
"French roast." Hicks repeated in an extremely monotone voice.
"Good choice."
"Good choice."
Jesse then handed the coffee back to Principal Hicks, the smirk never leaving his face as he walked away. He caught the three freshmen staring and flashed them a smile as he walked by, which made Ariel feel rather uneasy.
"Haha, boys in the drama club, always making a scene." Principal Hicks told them as he, too, saw Ariel, Benny and Ethan watching. Benny mimicked the principal's awkward chuckle while the Morgan twins just looked at him weirdly.
"Well, that was...strange," Ariel stated as she turned to her brother and their best friend, "Anyway, I'm going to find my locker. Later, losers." She grinned at the two of them, laughing when they glared at her for calling them losers before she wandered off. She missed the way Benny's glare turned into a smile upon hearing her laugh as she walked off. Ariel soon found her locker and started putting her things inside it, when a girl came and opened the one beside hers.
