I sat there in the chair, my eyes remained strained because I kept a close eye on this girl I found out on the streets. She was shivering beyond control- not even me hugging her from behind waiting for the ambulance to arrive.

I know what you are thinking, this is a complete stranger. I'd rather keep another human being alive than be responsible or be the cause of her death, if I can help her in any way. I will.

Once the ambulance did arrive, they asked me relationship with the girl-- I was concerned about her.

"Boyfriend- about to propose. Her parents must have chucked her out without her phone" They seemed to have bought it. Otherwise I probably wouldn't be sitting in the hospital room, the girl lying in the bed next to me.

It was 7am, I stayed up all night in case any changes did occur. I wanted to be the first to say something, I wanted to be the first person she saw. It's weird, but I did want her to know there was someone out there for her when she might have thought she was alone.

4-5 different nurses constantly walked past the hospital room, their trainers hitting the floor. It eventually got to me as I angrily shut the door over without slamming it. Making sure not to wake the girl.

She's been asleep for around 32 hours now. I haven't left this room. I have slept in small amounts in the past 18 hours. Every single time I felt myself asleep, I somehow snapped myself back awake and I was like that for a short period of time. I didn't want to miss anything.

Looking over at the girl, I felt this intense need to protect her.

Immediately from that moment when I saw her turning the corner, I looked to my right, saw a body- and double guessed what I thought she was. That's when I realised she was there, cold, wet and nearly unconscious.

Staring out into the distance, trying to figure out my next move.

I hear a slightly groan, immediately turning my attention and allowing me to know she was still alive- I then immediately phoned the ambulance and here we are.

There she was. The girl. She was waking up.

"Wh-where am I?" I stood at the end of the bed, not wanting to scare her.

"Your in the hospital, I found you out on the street corner nearly unconscious" Her eyes widened, both hands landed on her stomach,...when did she last eat?

"Excuse me, is everything okay here?" I look at the nurse who kinda just saved my ass. The girl looked at the nurse with pure fear spread across her features.

"Am I okay? Is there anything wrong?" I watched as the nurse sat on the side of the bed and held the girl's hand.

"Miss Marano, your baby is fine. Can I ask when you last ate?" I stumbled backwards into a double chair, I just saved a pregnant women for near death. I saved 2 humans from near death. Whoa.

And her second name is Marano, nice.

"Honestly, after everything that went down. I think about 4 days ago, only because I lost my apartment and my now-ex boyfriend left me after I told him I found out I was pregnant" the nurse held onto Marano's hands and assured her everything was going to be okay.

"What I am going to do for you and your partner over there" I watched Marano stare at me for a moment. I waved awkwardly.

"Is I'm going to get you two something to eat. You need to get your strength back up. I'll be right back" Marano smiled while the nurse left the room.

"It's nice to finally know part of your name Marano" I smiled, taking a step forward towards the end of the bed.

"And until I know I can trust you. That's the only name you'll know me by" feisty, I like it.

"Okay, that's cool. But yeah, I found you, near death. I phoned the ambulance, and you've been out for over 32 hours" I sit down on one of the chairs at the side of the bed. Marano watched me carefully.

"Well you heard correctly. I am with child, great start eh, almost dying on the streets. Just proves all guys are complete arseholes" I raise my eye brow, taken back.

"Hold on a minute. There is guys out there that aren't that much of a dickhead" Marano's eyebrows raise for a moment.

"Can I just point out, any dickhead without any kinda heart would've let you die in the street" She scoffed.

"You'd have been better to leave me to die, I'm worthless, I'm pregnant to a guy who fucked off and left me. I've lost my job, my income, I cannot and I refuse to raise a baby under my conditions. What would that show them?" I felt sorry for Marano. She seemed to be having a tough time.

"You have nowhere to go, do you?" She shook her head, eyes permanently locked on the hospital bed sheets.

"No, I lost my apartment and my parents died in a car crash a few years back. I've been on my own every since" I definitely did feel bad for this girl now. She was like hopelessly lost.

"So, once you've been cleared here. You can come back to my place, I've got a spare room, plenty of heat, food and TV. How about you stay at mines until your back on your feet or until you get a job and save a little cash for your own place, no matter how long it takes?" Marano basically just stared right at me, emotions filled her eyes.

"You don't even know me, yeah you know I'm pregnant. But why help me?" I look at her, questioning her for a moment.

"Because I'm not about to let a pregnant women I found on the streets out in the pishing rain, be moved into a women's shelter. You'll know no one there, with me you'll at least get to learn to trust me" it was all true.

"Plus, I saved you. I want to keep an eye on you, especially with you being with child" she places both hands on her stomach. I stand up, walk towards her, keeping a close eye on her body movements.

"Look, I can drive you to the hospital when you need to be there. I can help you with anything you need, just please let me take care of you. Plus, you need to kinda leave with me, I may have told the ambulance folk, that you were my girlfriend, soon to be fiancé" I recieve a gentle tap on the arm from the last sentence. Understandable.

"It was the only way they'd let me in the ambulance with you, and I was not about to leave your side" Marano sighs, I sigh after her.

"Okay, fine. I'll stay with you for a while" I feel my whole body drop fast, I land back in the chair that sits near the bed.

"Thank you, now I can breathe" Looking at the TV, I can see Marano giving me a smile.

After what seemed like forever, the nurse finally returned with 2 plates of steaming hot food.
