"Hey," said a voice somewhere from behind Dant, causing him to nearly jump out of his exoskeleton.

"Oh," he muttered, catching his breath, "It's just you, Phinsect. You nearly gave me a heart attack."

"Sorry." Phinsect scuttled across the cold tile floor, the two of them enveloped in the shadow of the desk above them. No one could see them here. They were well hidden.

"Have you gotten news from our Father yet?" Dant avoided his friend's gaze as he asked. He tapped an eyelash-thin leg against the floor.

"The Furby has not yet spoken," Phinsect confessed softly. He paused, and let out a breath. "None of the colony has gotten word from Him in days."

"Perhaps he's left us." The claim was hollow, listless. Dant was losing hope that their Savior was still out there, that He still cared about them.

"Don't say that." Gently, Phinsect scooted closer to him. ""He's still listening. He has to be."
