I just stood there, completely and utterly warmed by his words. He liked me. He really liked me. I was stunned. He was the first. I mean, there were a few boys in primary school, but I didn’t really count those since we were all going through puberty, and therefore very over-emotional. He didn’t regret anything from today. I sighed with relief. I then realized that he was still waiting for me to say something, anything, since he confessed his feelings. I started to stutter as the words I was trying to form rolled off of my tongue.
“O-oh, th-hank God,” was all I was able to get out before I broke down again. I was so overwhelmed with the emotions Niall had made me feel within the last 8 hours. 8 HOURS!? “Holy shit!” I thought. I’d known him less than half a day and I could already feel myself falling. I was leaping way before I had even looked. In that moment, I let out another dry sob and I felt Niall’s arms wrap themselves back around my waist. I looked up at him, wanting to see some kind of rejection in his face that said he didn’t want this emotional mess of a girl. I wanted to see him not want me, because I knew that if he didn’t, I was going to fall even harder. And that’s exactly what I did. Niall’s eyes were full of compassion, caring, and kindness. He hooked a finger under my chin and tilted my face up slowly so he could see more of it.
“Hey, hey, hey,” he whispered, “what’s got you streaming like a rainstorm, eh?” he asked with his accent thick.
“You’re-you’re the first-t boy who has ev-ver said any-ything like that to me,” I managed to get out between dry sobs, still trying to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill out of my eyes and onto Niall’s t-shirt.
“Well that’s just not right,” was all he said.
“What do you mean?” I asked, sniffing the last of my sobs and trying to return my breathing to normal.
“It’s not right. That’s not right,” he kept muttering over and over.
“Niall…”
“It’s just- no. That’s crazy. ‘S not right..”
“Niall…” I tried again.
“I mean, how could they not- I just-“
“Niall!” I snapped, finally getting Niall’s attention.
“What?” He asked innocently
“What are you going on about?” I asked
“I just don’t understand how a girl like you couldn’t have boys waiting on you left and right. I just don’t understand how they couldn’t find you as amazing as I do.” He stated without a hint of regret.
“Niall.. I.. I don’t even know what to say.”
“Say you’ll go to Nando’s with me on Friday night, 6 o’ clock. Say you’ll go on a date with me.”
“I’ll go on a date with you. I’ll go to Nando’s with you on Friday night, 6 o’ clock.” I repeated after him. The biggest grin slid across his face, all the way up to his ears.
“Good,” is all he said before he pulled me back into a warm embrace. It was silent between us, but that was ok. Silence with Niall wasn’t awkward. It was serene. Or at least is was, until I heard a car horn go off behind me. I could not have been more horrified by who the person behind the wheel was; my mum. I quickly shoved Niall off of me and tried to fix my make-up and straighten out my skirt, while Niall ran his hand through his hair and tried to flatten out his shirt before we both turned to face my mum, who was practically in the same spot where she had dropped me off for my first day of school just this morning. She had rolled down her window and cleared her throat. She stared at me, but it wasn’t a ‘you’re so dead when you get home’ kind of stare. She actually looked quite relaxed.
