THREE IN RETROSPECT
IN RETROSPECT, Michelle probably should've thought this through like twenty minutes ago, back when she still had the chance to tell Jackie she had somewhere to be, and when she wasn't sitting in Eric's basement next to the younger girl as she says again and again: I am done with Michael! I am a whole new Jackie! Seriously. I'm serious. Really, really serious.
Michael Kelso was a mystery to most. Large. Stupid. Mediocre looks. His tendency to treat girls like shit really didn't sit well with Michelle. She didn't understand how someone can percieve dating two people at once as ok. ( Well actually, she believed Michael could.) She'd never seen it up this close before. Only from afar, through choruses of soft whispers in hallways and walking into bathrooms to find a group of girls huddled around one in particular, who'd usually be balling her eyes out, onyx tears streaming down her face, all due to that . . . that, shallow piece of shit!
Than again, he reminded Michelle of her late older brother; a ladies man that made bad decisions every so often, a guy that had a good heart, except you just had to dig a little deeper to find it. Leather jacket and blue jeans, Doug Nguyen didn't need to try hard in order to grasp the attention of the female population in Point Place. Not a day went by that she didn't see her brother in everyday things, like objects with eerie reminisce of his attributes, or people making stupid jokes that are totally inappropriate, just as he would have done when he still walked the earth. And sometimes . . . when she closed her eyes and pretended everything was alright again, it was like he was still there next to her and they were joking like old times.
The smooth chilled surface of her physics textbook hit the side of her cheek with a sounding 'thud'. She'd nearly fallen asleep? a side effect of staying up until four AM for the sole perpose of being able to watch the Soul Train rewinds on the television. Michelle shot up immediately, rubbing her cheek.
"Oh, my, god! Did you just faint on me, Michelle?" Jackie's mouth feel agape, the girl pausing momentarily.
"Did that look like a fainting spell to you?" She fluttered her eyelids.
