Two weeks later...
Finally! It's the day before the dance. I can't describe how excited I am. Tomorrow, I'll be dancing the night away with Paul, something I've never done before. I can imagine it now, I'll have my brand new dress on with my hair pulled high into a ponytail. Paul will ask me to dance after he hands me a bright red rose and I'll take his hand as we waltz onto the dance floor. He leans toward me and, before I know it we...
"Miss Perkins!"
"Huh, yes?"
"Are you going to listen or am I going to have to call your Mum like you're in primary school?" my Language teacher, Mrs. Davis, said.
"Um, no ma'am. I'm sorry, I guess I was daydreaming," I said as I felt my face heat up like a furnace.
"Well, don't let it happen again."
"Yes, ma'am."
I looked next to me to find Emily's face turning red, for she was holding back the giggles.
"It's not funny!" I whispered.
"Pay attention!" she replied sarcastically.
I just rolled my eyes and turned my attention back to Mrs. Davis.

It was nearing lunchtime when I met Paul in the hallway. I greeted him with an excited grin and he returned the same look.
"So, are you excited about tomorrow night?" he asked.
"Well, now that I know I'm going with the nicest boy in school it really does make me super excited!" I replied.
"Aww, you're so sweet!"
"Why do you say that?" I asked while acting dreadfully confused.
"Because you said I was the nicest boy in school!"
"Oh, how embarrassing...for you. I was talking about John, Silly! Who else would I be talking about?"
"Yeah right, Miss Cheeky!" he laughed.
"Just kidding! I'm really, really excited about it!"
"So am I! Now, there's something I wanted to ask you."
I nodded excitedly as he continued:
"I was wondering if you'd like to take a walk with me tonight in the park. Y'know, just the two of us," he grinned.
"What for?" I inquired.
"Oh, I just thought it would be fun, that's all."
"Well, alright. It sounds good to me."
My answer caused his (somewhat) chubby face to light up intensely. His lips curled into a toothy grin and, I'll be the first to say, it was extremely cute.
"Great! It's a date then!" he said as he motioned for me to walk with him into the cafeteria.
"A date it shall be!" I replied triumphantly.
To be quite honest, I didn't really understand why he seemed so adamant about going on a date a day before the dance. But, hey, I'm not complaining! I more than welcome the idea!

That evening...
I decided not to get too dressed up since we were only going to the park. I did decide, however, to leave my hair down, something I almost never do. I grabbed a light jacket, since I didn't expect it to be very chilly, and walked out the door (After telling Mum and Dad of course). The park wasn't very far, so I decided to walk. Within ten minutes, I had arrived. I glanced around the quiet park, trying to find Paul. Much to my dismay, I didn't spot him. I sighed to myself before feeling a pair of strong hands grab my shoulders from behind.
