I acheived a ride home from Dani, stil avoiding Hayden. I had a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I don't know if it had anything to do with him or Julie but it was definately bad.
I walked tentativly up the step to our small yellow house, glancing back at Julie's car in the driveway. My hands became clammy and i took a deep breath, rapping softly on the door. It was flung open quickly, revealing a distraut look Julie.
Her hair was in a messy bun and flyaways littered the top of her head. She was definately in well need of a brush. Her shirt was rumpled and her eyes red rimmed. I watched her blank face register my appearance and recognition flash across her eyes. Here we go.
Her face crumpled and she crushed me to her chest with a sob. "I'm so s-s-sorry." She whispered into my ear. I patted her back awkwardly. She stank slightly of beer, making me wrinkle my nose. My stomach churned uneasily and she continued to cry in my ear.
"It's ok Jules. I'm OK!" I muttered gently. She clung to me and apologised and i let her. What was i supposed to do. "I just don't want you to be afraid of me because i know that you're skittish and i still tried to discipline you even though i know i can never be your mother or replace her i was just so angry that you did something so stupid." She cried.
"I know. I know it was stupid." I continued to rub her back until she pulled away, laughing and rubbing her eyes. I smiled. It felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I thought she would've been mad, maybe even tol me to go pack my stuff but she was the usual sweet old Julie.
"Lilah?" A small shaky voice asked from the kitchen. Oh god. I had forgotten about Ethan. How could i forget about Ethan. Dread filled me at the thought of him finding me that night and i shuddered. Please no.
He was pressed into the corner, blue eyes wide. "Hey Eth." I spoke softly, like talking to a scared animal. He clutched his stuffedmonkey tighter to his chest and the hope drained out of me. He hadn't picked up that monkey since he was 5 and scared of the dark.
He hesitated for a moment before dropping the monkey and running at me. I stooped down and picked him up, even though he was to heavy for comfort. He hugged me tight and Julie stared in awe, wide eyed. I had never let Ethan hug me before. Then, i realised he was crying. And so was i.
"I'm sorry Eth. I didn't mean for you to see me like that but i'm okay see? I promise." My voice cracked. He didn't answer, just hugged me and sniffled and snorted. I hobbled to the couch and sat with him in my lap, smoothing down his unruly hair.
Julie dropped beside me tiredly and i gave her a wobbly smile. She smiled back, running a hand through her hair.
"I was scared." Ethan mumbled into my hair and i smiled sadly. "I know." I mumbled back and he nuzzled into my hair again. My hands were shaking as i rubbed them up and down his back. The room was packed full with emotion.
"Hey ethan?" I asked pulling him up to face me. He sniffed and nodded.. "What?" He asked cautiously. "How would you like to meet some of my friends?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Julie was overjoyed that i was having friends over. She went on and on about how glad she was that i had bounced back so quickly and flitted from room to room, cleaning and fixing herself up, hopping into the shower and making beds.
Dani, of course, was the first to arive, banging on the door until i opened it. "Gosh Dani, you'ld think you were dying out here." I exclaimed. Moving aside as she bustled in in a flurry of junkfood and makeover suplies. She grinned and waved a bag of chips at me.
"Where do i put all this?" I pointed up the stairs and led her to my room. It felt weird to have company in my private little space. My drawing taped up on green walls here and there,a black wooden dresser and headboard, a mirror and a pink beanbad in the corner made up most of my room. Dani looked around and nodded her approval before dumbing her stuff onto my purple bed spread.
Ethan followed us into the room like a puppy dog, smiling at Dani. Dani glanced down and smiled back. "Hey, you must be Ethan." She announced and he nodded excitedly. "Yup. You're pretttyyyy." He announced and she grinned ruffling his hair. "I like you!" She replied seriously. That little womanizer.
Kyrsten and Savannah arrived not long after and once Ethan went to bed, we got the party in full swing. I nibbled on a Dorito and nodded to Dani.
"So... you and ryan?" I asked. She wiggled her eyebrows and retorted with "So you and Hayden?" I flushe dbut then remembered this morning. "No. not anymore." I said quietly shaking my hair into my eyes to hid the threatening tears.
"WHAT?" Savannah and Dani screeched at the same time. Kyrsten, who was munching delicatley on a cookie raised an eyebrow questioningly. Her blonde locks were tied up in a ponytail. I sighed.
"We got in an argument this morning. That's it." But that wasn't enough for Dani. She shook me and raised hell until i spilled details. Her and Savannah soaked up my words with hungry eyes that were kinda freaking me out.
"I Can not beleive that ass!" She threw her hands up and paced on my white carpet. "It's no big deal." I replied, shrugging half heartidly. Dani's Neon green pajama shorts swished as she whirled on me, crossing her arms.
"We should... we should... Chop-" I cut her off. "We are not chopping his balls off with rusty gardening shears." I said, rolling my eyes. "Well you should at least do something!" She retorted , plopping heavily in my bean bag chair.
Savannah nodded her dark brown hair bouncing. "Yeah, she's right." She was seated on my bed, leaning against the headboard in a blue t-shirt and tweetie bird pajama bottoms. I was in a purple tank top and grey sweatpants.
Kyrsten sighed and set down her half eaten cookie. "Maybe not. I think they were good together. " She spoke, staring at me with a sympatheitc look. She was in all pink as usual. I groaned .
"Can we please just drop the topic? Please?" I begged, pleading with dani. She huffed. "Fine. but don't say i didn't tell you so." I rolled my eyes again. I seemed to do that alot around her.
We watched four consecutive horror movies and a chick flick. I tried to ignore the goriest parts of the horror movies. I hated them but everyone had over ruled me, so i guess tonight was nightmare night. We also ate 2 bags of chips and a pack of cookies. Yum yum. The night over all was great. We stayed up late talking and laughing, on a sugar high. For my first sleepover, it was pretty awesome. I didn't even dream.
In the morning they left around 2 in the afternoon, leaving me exhausted. i didn't do anything all day, just watched the weekend drag by sluggishly and before iknew it it was monday and my alarm was blaring. I groaned and slapped the off button, pulling myself out of bed.
It took about 45 minutes to get ready for school and get there. Not bad considering it wwas a monday. I walked to the school building. It was weird, the feeling that something bad was going to happen was back, full force.
I stepped unesily across the threshold and papers flutteres. Weird. A crowd of people were surrounding the bulliten baord by the office. Even weirder. I slowly walked to the crowd and tried to get a look at what was going on.
It was an artical, hung on the poster board. I could just barely make out the words. I gasped and dropped everything. Holy shit.
