(A/N Hey guys, I'm back from the dead for another update! So... enjoy some angst and fluff as per usual in this story)
"Pippin," Merry began slowly as they sat in the Brandybuck's living room. "I don't think you should come with us."
Pippin took a step back, looking shocked, "Wh-what? Why? I'm- I'm nearly an adult! I'll be responsible, I swear!"
"I-I know... I just don't want you to get hurt. This is going to be a very dangerous journey and I would feel guilty if you got hurt."
Pippin looked so hurt that Merry had to look away. "Do you think I don't know what I signed up for by joining this conspiracy Merry Brandybuck?" His voice was lower and angrier then Merry had ever heard it. At that moment Pippin sounded like a true Took and nothing like the mischievous, slightly shy, kid that Merry knew.
Merry looked back at Pippin, "Are you sure about this, Pip? You-you know what could happen out there."
Pippin forced himself to swallow around a hard lump in his throat. "I'll never leave you, Merry. Even if we..." he swallowed hard again, "even if something horrible happens while we're helping Frodo and Sam and Mr. Gandalf... I'd rather die with you than sit here comfortably knowing that I might have been able to help you."
Merry stared at the younger hobbit with a mixture of admiration and shock. "You're the bravest hobbit I've ever met," he murmured as he pulled Pippin into a tender kiss.
Pippin went bright red but returned the kiss, smiling into it slightly. When they pulled apart Pippin looked down at his feet awkwardly and murmured, "Please let me come, Merry. I couldn't stand just sitting here and doing nothing."
"Of course you can come, Pip," Merry responded, ruffling Pippin's curly hair. "It's both of us or neither."
"No matter what happens out there?" Pippin asked in a quiet voice.
"No matter what happens," Merry confirmed, shaking Pippin's hand over-dramatically.
"I love you, Merry," Pippin murmured softly.
"I love you too..."
