Another long day of college meant that Louis was entering the main lobby of his flat block, making his way over to the lift which was to bring him to his flat on the fifth floor. He pressed the button by the door, waiting a few moments before seeing a figure timidly walk forwards by his side, waiting also for the doors to open. In the corner of Louis' eye, he noticed how the posture of this male was very secretive. Not that he was a bit shifty, but as though he looked upset about something.

A clear ding snapped Louis out of his muse and the metal doors of the lift opened to show that it was empty. Louis stepped inside, hearing the light footsteps of the boy behind him as he too entered.

"What floor are you after?" Louis asked softly, and the boy's body language clearly got even more shy, tensing up.

"F-five." He mumbled cutely in a deep, husky voice and Louis smiled before pressing the button. The lift was full of pure silence and Louis glanced over to see that this boy was staring down at his feet so a fringe of brown curls hung in front of his eyes. He was tall and very slim, wearing a baggy jumper and very skinny jeans that were ripped at the knees. Louis cleared his throat in attempt to break the silence.

"I'm on floor five too. Coincidence." He chuckled softly, but got no response apart from a very breathy laugh from the curly haired boy. He decided to give up, hearing a ding similar from earlier as the doors of the elevator opened. A tall, intimidating man was stood there when the doors opened, brow furrowed in rage.

"Where the fuck were you?!" He screamed, roughly grabbing the sleeve of the timid boy and pulling him out of the elevator. The boy squeaked in terror as a hand hit him across the face and Louis was shocked, eyes and mouth wide.

"What kind of fucking boyfriend are you?! Always bloody late!" He roared, slapping the boy again across the head and dragging him by his hair down the corridor.

Louis was so close to saying something, but he restrained it. He stupidly, foolishly restrained it. It was one of the worst decisions he had ever made.

All Louis could think about the next day was the incident between the timid boy and his abusive boyfriend. It was haunting him. The very next evening, after college, he strolled into the corridor again to see that the boy wasn't there this time. He pressed the button on the elevator and it opened instantly, revealing that it was empty. He pressed the button for the fifth floor, watching the doors close again.

He drummed his fingers on the metal railing at the side, fixing his hair in the mirror as he waited. When the lift reached his floor, the doors opened and he stepped out. He stepped along the echoey hallway, all the way to his door which was halfway down. As he pressed the key against the lock, he heard a scream. That of pure fear and helplessness. His heart began drumming very fast in his chest as he glanced around. It was definitely a male scream and it definitely came from room 5E, which was across the hallway.

He stood and listened, feeling his whole body shaking as he made out the words: "LET ME GO!"

To his horror, it sounded like the curly haired boy from the previous day. Louis couldn't believe his ears.

"PLEASE!" Another shriek rang into Louis' ears. Once again, he didn't do anything about it. He turned back to his room and unlocked it, stepping inside. He could feel tears starting in his eyes but he didn't do anything.
