Stolen Daffodils

I leaned down and snagged a few daffodils. It wasn't like anyone would notice me taking a few out of the large expanse of flowers adorning the garden of some stranger... though I still felt guilty. I had only walked a few steps when I heard a voice call out, "So you're the one that's been stealing my mum's flowers."

I froze, then turned around. "Wh- What?"

"Don't worry," The other boy said. He looked to be about my age. His silver-blonde hair falling into his eyes as he rolled up the sleeves of a brand new looking blazer, "I won't tell."

"You won't?" I asked thankfully.

"Of course not." He said, "as long as-"

"Ugh, of course, there's a catch! What is it, I've got places to be you know."

"Well if you would let me finish my sentence!"

"Sorry," I said sheepishly.

"It's fine, anyway, before you interrupted me, I was going to say I would like to come with you."

"What? Why?"

"To assure the girl is pretty enough to warrant the theft of my mother's flowers."

"Uh, I'm gay."

"You are?" The other boy asked surprised, "huh, you don't look it."

"Really?" I snorted, all too used to the response.

"No offense."

"It doesn't matter... But I'm afraid you can't come."

"Then I suppose I'll have to tell my mother who's been taking her flowers."

"No! Just... ugh, I'll let you come as long as I can keep taking flowers every Friday."

"You strike a hard bargain... Fair enough, I'm Draco by the way." He stuck his hand out for me to shake.

"Harry," I said, taking his hand into my own for a firm shake. We shared a smile.

"Which way are you off?" Draco asked.

"Um, this way," I said taking the lead.

"So, what's this guy like."

"Erm, they're really nice. Well, that's not true. They're human, just like everyone else. So like everyone else, he's made mistakes, he'll make mistakes, it's part of life. He bullied a kid when he was younger, for being different. He's learned now, but is that enough? I don't know. He has friends," Had, "the four of them are close, close as brothers. They went to school together, they saved each other from loneliness, from abuse, from illness, from betrayal. But along the way the broke up. One became a teacher, one ran away, one went to prison until he was left all alone again. His name's James... Oh my god sorry, you probably didn't want to hear all that!"

"Well, no, that was not what I had intended to ask for but I'm touched that you shared, will he mind though? I mean you practically shared his life story with me."

"Oh trust me he won't mind." I smiled grimly.

"So that's who you got the flowers for, I suppose they sound worth it but I'd still like to see them."

"Okay. But that's not the only one I got the flowers for."

"But you only have four flowers!"

"Two for each person."

"Alright... tell me about the other person." Draco smiled.

"Let's see, she's a redhead, not that has anything to do with anything, but I suppose it symbolizes her standing out as an individual and how her temper is soft, but firey. She excels in all her classes, she works hard, plays hard, fights hard. She is strong but gentle. She cooks too you know, I heard she makes the best apple pie you've ever had. I know it sounds cliche but it's true. She like animals. Her favorite's a deer. She's friends with the other four I was talking about earlier. All joining each other by a campfire, seeking comfort in the others company. They pulled pranks too, on teachers, on fellow students, but unlike the others, she never got caught. She smells of roses, which is ironic considering her name is Lily," Was, "She's wonderful."

"She sounds wonderful." Draco breathed, "You know, you're an excellent storyteller, Harry. You spin your words beautifully."

"Thank you," I said as I felt my cheeks heating up.

We kept walking, this time in comfortable silence when I steered us in the way of the cemetery. I gulped. "Is this a short cut? Because I really don't like cemeteries."

"Yeah, it's something like that, but trust me, we've got to go this way."

"Okay..." Draco responded, sounding decidedly less confident than before.

I took a deep breath and reached for his hand. He didn't pull away. "Thank you," he said after a moment, but won't James mind?"

"No, he won't."

We kept going.

We finally stopped between the two tombstones, I sniffed. "Why are we stopping?" Draco asked.

"Draco, meet James and Lily Potter," I said gesturing to the two tombstones, "Mum, Dad, meet Draco, my new friend."

"Oh..." Draco gasped. "Oh, Harry..."

I knelt and laid two flowers on each grave. "I told you you shouldn't have come."

Draco kneeled next to me, wrapping his arms around me as silent tears slipped out of my eyes. "I know it's a bad time but, would you like to go out with me?"

"Ha!" I barked out a laugh, cold and sharp. "Sure," I said softly, contrasting my laugh.

We continued to kneel and he continued to hold me, long into the morning.
