Ring ring

The faint buzzing of the repetitive alarm clock rang in the back off my mind as I tried to doze off again with no help from my mysterious neighbor that put me in this position in the first place.

Run away with me.

Those simple light-hearted words created a love story I never thought I would experience.

Maya. Her laugh could light up a child's funeral. Which is something the people in this world need apparently since over half the population shouldn't be legal. Her fiery red hair and huge seductive smile creates the image I was honored to know. Honored to love.

I never had the chance to meet my parents. They were either killed because of my birth, or didn't have the money to hide me secretly and safely. Either way, I was sent to the Secrets Sealed compound which is a safe haven for forbidden children on an island.

It wasn't the best place to call home, but It was shelter nonetheless. The employees there were silent and as still as statues. Even when you asked them a question they would lead you somewhere to show you the answer instead of replying like a normal human being. It created an atmosphere of despair and awkwardness. The kids there including me barely talked, even in classes and lunch where kids would be combined to socialize. Until Maya came.

Since the Secret Sealed compound Is hard to transport children to they closed off anymore transfers from other safe havens, but for some reason Maya was an exception. All the kids admitted into the compound got there around the newborn or toddler stage, while Maya was 15. For someone who talked non-stop, no one could figure out her story. She was the gossip of the compound without anyone actually whispering about her. Everyone was intrigued.

She was loud, nosy, and obviously annoyed that the workers acted like the government could hear every movement, action, and thought.

This girl was not used to quiet, that's all I knew.

Which made me want to study every feature of her, every trait, every quality, every choice. I wanted to know everything about her. I stared at her a lot. I watched how she interacted with people. It just came so naturally for her.

How could someone be so...confident ? In a world like this. Where no one outside of these walls will approve of your existence. How do you live life so carefree, so endlessly?  Our lives have the highest risk of death. Socialization and optimism shouldn't be your daily goals, they physically can't be.

Until she chose me to be friends with. To start striking up conversation every time she passed me in the halls. She gave me a straight, smooth path to every thought, idea, and plan she held in that complex, intricate brain of hers.

She was completely and utterly incredible, but she had so many dreams. Dreams that were dangerous for a forbidden child that has to stay isolated for their lifespan. She want's to scuba dive, go skydiving, get married, have kids, be famous. She wanted everything.

She wanted to feel sand between her toes and let the ocean sweep them away along with her worries. She wanted to sing at the top of her lungs in the middle of NYC, she wanted the world to chant her name when she competed in the olympics for track and field.

I changed The term hopeless romantic to hopeless dreamer for Maya.

The thing is, she never saw it as hopeless. She wanted to make it happen, she wasn't going to rest until she was given those opportunities as she rightly deserved them.
