The beast

The beast
Slumbering in me
Has opened
One red eye
It stares you down
As I soothe it
As I try
To coax it back
Pulling at its ears
To keep it down
But it snarls as I do so
It will not rest
It won't sleep any longer
I can hold it back
But it won't forget
It won't doze again
Until it tastes your blood
On its glinting fangs
