To you, the library was your sanctuary. You spent most of your free time in a small tidy corner of the library, your nose in a book or your eyes distantly gazing into the screen of your computer as you cuddled the warmth of your loose {enter fandom} jacket.
You've already read everything that you could possibly think you'd enjoy, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling, and stacks of other books that you couldn't even begin to name. Now you were focused on manga. Anything ranging from gory battle mangas to ecchi, and the recurring graphic shonen-ai mangas that you told nobody about, interested you. Anything with good art and a good plot line could draw you in.
Right now, you were tediously reading Naruto. Usually, you would be totally enveloped by this series but something was making you lose your focus. A scrawny blonde boy, looking roughly around his late teens, was slinking around the book isle near you, pretending to be fascinated in a biography of President Richard Nixon, but you would catch him sneaking a few glances at you.
Folding your legs up with your feet on the seat of the chair, you placed the manga in between your legs while hiding your face. The book slightly poked over your knees.
As much as you tried to center your attention on the comic, you couldn't. Your cheeks tingled and burned slightly.
Is he still there? Is he looking at me? You wanted to peer around your legs, but didn't. You knew it would be too obvious if you had. Whatever, he's gone. You told yourself, actually focusing slightly. You enjoyed the Naruto series, the characters where dynamic, a bit stereotypical, but still entertaining. The fight scenes were well created too.
"You read Naruto?" A small voice startled you, causing a tiny squeak to shoot from your mouth. "Sorry," the fair-haired boy gasped lightly, apologizing for startling you.
"I-It's alright," you murmured and put your legs down. "But yeah, I'm almost done with the last book." You brushed back a couple loose pieces of hair that fell in your face. "Do you?"
The boy short, but not extremely, his was thin too. He had a nice, rounded but angular face with the vivid and flamboyant blue eyes. His pallid cheeks were a soft pink as he stood in front of you, speaking with a hesitant voice.
"Yeah, I'm almost done with the series too."
"Have you read One Piece?" You leaned up in your seat, a slight excited tone to your voice.
"Of course!" He chimed, sitting in the chair next to you. You looked at him as he sat. His cheeks grew a darker shade of pink, near red. He smiled at you, showing you his white teeth. "I'm Armin, by the way." He chuckled lightly.
You cringed internally, that was the most basic way to introduce oneself. You didn't like boring things.
"I'm (y/n). Manga and Anime enthusiast." A soft giggle left your mouth. Armin laughed with you.
"So, I've noticed you spend a lot of time here—"
"Y-You've been watching me?" You immediately said, your eyebrows arching and a red blush blurring your cheeks.
"Well, N-No..." He flustered, waving his hands. "I-I've just sorta seen you around." His voice was slightly higher as he spoke now, he sounded nervous and worried.
You giggled uncomfortably and returned to read Naruto, reading the words but not comprehending what they meant, due to Armin shifting around the chair next to you. You blushed darker, hoping he'd leave and end the awkwardness that hung in the air around the two of you.
"Uh," He cleared his throat, which startled you again, and spoke. "D-Do you want to hang out sometime?" You turned to look at him as he talked, your cheeks still burning. Armin's cheeks were flushed a deep scarlet red also. "I mean...n-not if you..."
He was cute, and a boy. The first cute boy to actually talk to you actually. You two seemed to have a lot of things in common, and without talking to him more, you wouldn't know if you had anything else you both liked.
But you were shy. You've never been able to talk to a guy and have a long, interesting conversation. Armin was the first. You had to make this last.
"Here? At the library?" You asked, looking into his brilliant blue eyes.
"Y-Yeah, I guess."
"It's a date."
