A Mistake Could Change A Lifetime

Chapter 9

It's a Saturday afternoon now and I've been living here with Regina and Henry for a week and a half. It's been really great. We get along great and Henry has been doing a lot better as far as his breathing. Henry is up taking a nap right now and Regina and I I are just finishing up watching a movie. I released a sigh for about the 20th time this afternoon. "Ok Emma. What the hell is it? You've been a little cranky all day".  "What do you mean, I've been cranky".  "Just what I said. Your very  indecisive so when I choose something you just sigh and say 'Whatever'.  What's going on?"  "I don't know. It's probably nothing. I'm thirsty, you want something". I stand and start walking to the kitchen. Regina follows me. I open the fridge and grab a little bottle of apple juice. I start drinking it down and see Regina staring at me. I stop drinking and say. "What?"  "Emma what is it? Please talk to me. Is it something I've done, is this relationship something that your no longer interested in?"  "What? No Regina of course not don't be silly".  "Damn it then just talk to me".  "Your gonna think it's stupid and that I'm just childish".  "It can't be as bad as some of the things going on inside my head. Please tell me".  "Ok. Fine. I don't want to leave".  "What?"  She asks quietly. "Monday night I'll have to leave so I can go back to work Tuesday morning. My vacation is almost over. I feel like we are kinda breaking up in a way".   "Emma we're not breaking up. What would make you think of something like that".  I take another sip of my juice and take a seat at the island. Regina sits next to me and holds my hand. "Im sorry I feel this way. It's just that I've spent almost every minute of the last week and a half with you and Henry. Now I have to leave these two people that feel like the family I've always wanted and never had before. I know that sounds a little pathetic maybe but for someone like me that doesn't have many friends or anyone that I really trust, I guess it's just hard for me to think about not being here all the time. Not sleeping next to you at night or waking up with Henry in the morning". I stop talking because I'm starting to feel stupid. I never looked at Regina at all when I spoke. "That's a lot Emma. Thank you for being so honest with me".  I just shrug. "Please look at me". I let out a deep breath and look in her eyes. "Don't leave us". She says with so much sincerity in her voice and tears falling across the smile on her face. I open my mouth to speak but nothing comes out. "Stay with us Emma. Your right, we have become a fast family. I don't know if I could sleep without you holding me and Henry needs you just as much as I do. I love you Emma Swan. Stay. Move in with us".  "Are you sure this is what you want?"  "Absolutely Emma. I can't imagine you not being here". I smile and gently kiss her. "I love you Emma".  I kiss her again. "I love you Regina". I hold her so close and love the feeling I always get from her. We start to hear Henry waking up from his nap. Regina pulls back from me and says. "How about you go get Henry. If you feel that he wouldn't love seeing you all the time you don't have to move in if you don't want to. This is your decision".  I smile and kiss her and quickly run up the stairs to Henry's nursery. I walk in and over to his crib. He stops crying when we sees me. "Hey kid. How was your nap?"  He gives me a smile as his wet eyes shine. I love this kid so much. He holds his arms out and I pick him right up.  "I bet you need a diaper change don't ya?"  I bring him over to the changing table and lay him down. Thank goodness he's only wet. I love him not his poop full diapers. I talk to him the whole time I'm changing him. "So kid your mom and I were just talking about something important. How would you feel about me being here all the time. I mean I'm here all the time right now but I may have to go back to my place so I can go back to work. I would really miss you and mommy so much. Mommy asked me to move in here with you guys. Is that ok with you?"  I zip up his clothes when I'm done and toss the diaper in the bin. I pick up Henry and hug and tickle him making him giggle. "So does that mean your ok with me moving in". I tickle him more and he lets out a bunch of giggles. "Let's go downstairs and see mommy now. I bet she misses us".   I walk into the kitchen with Henry and Regina has a big smile on her face. I go sit next to her and she holds out her hands to take Henry but he puts his head on my shoulder. "Looks like he's helping you make a decision". She says with a little laugh. "Yeah. I guess he is. Him and I had a conversation upstairs while I was changing him. I would really love to live with you both if that offer is still available".  "It definitely is and I'm so happy to hear that". She kisses me and then Henry. She puts her head on my other shoulder and one arm around my back and the other on Henry's. I close my eyes and enjoy this feeling. "Emma can I tell you something?"  "Of course babe. What is it?"  "I over heard your conversation with Henry while you were changing him".  "You did?"  "Yes. Through the baby monitor. I'm sorry. I wanted to be honest with you". I kiss her head that's still on my shoulder. "It's ok Regina I didn't say anything to him that I wouldn't have said to you or in front of you. I guess I have to remember that thing if I ever want to tell Henry about your Christmas or birthday present". That made us both laugh which made Henry laugh.
The next day we got up and had breakfast together then Regina called her friend Mary Margaret and asked if she wasn't busy if she'd be able to watch Henry for a little while. She said she would love to. As Regina and I walked up to her door Regina stopped me before I could knock. "What, what's wrong?"  "Before we go in there I want to warn you about Mary Margaret. She can be a little.... excitable. Hyper maybe. Please don't take her the wrong way. She means well".  Before I could say a word the front door flew open. "Oh Regina I've missed you so much. Come here". A small woman with short brunette hair grabs Regina and  practically gives her a bear hug. It's a good thing I'm holding Henry. She finally lets go. "Come in, come in". She looks at me with the biggest smile and I swear she wants to give me the same kind of hug she gave Regina and I haven't even met her yet. "Hello Mary Margaret. It's very nice to see you. It's been a while. I'd like for you to meet my girlfriend Emma. Emma this is Mary Margaret Nolan". I switch Henry to my other arm and shake her hand. "Nice to meet you Mrs. Nolan".  "Oh please call me Mary Margaret or Mary or MM. I'll answer to anything". I swear she speaks a thousand miles an hour. I just smile and nod. "Thank you so much for watching Henry this afternoon".  "Oh that's not a problem. We love having Henry with us".  "Speaking of us, where is David?"  "He's getting dressed. He had to work for a few hours this morning so he took a shower when he got home. He wanted to be nice and clean so he could play with Henry. He really loves this little guy just like everyone does". As she stops saying that I hear footsteps coming downstairs. We all look and I see a sandy haired man walking towards us. "Holy shit Nolan". I say  excitedly with a little laugh. "Emma Swan. Watch your language in front of my son".  I look at Regina. "Sorry babe".  "Swany what the hell are you do around these parts and with Regina Mills?"  "Well Regina and I have been seeing each other and we've decided to move in together". I suddenly hear a squeal that almost scares the hell out of me. Of course it's from Mary Margaret. "Oh Regina. I'm so happy for you".  She bear hugs Regina again and I can't believe Regina is showing so much restraint. I almost expect her to lash out on this woman. "Thanks MM but Emma and I really have to go. We want to start packing up her place now while we still have some time". The hyper brunette let's go and apologizes. "Take all the time you need but I have and idea if it's ok?"  Oh no what? Is all I'm thinking. "We'll try not to be to long. Henry will need dinner and get to bed".  "Well like I said please take all the time you need but if you'd like I could make us dinner for when you get back. It's 2 o'clock now I could have a pot roast ready by 5:3O 6 o'clock. Oh Emma are you a vegetarian or vegan? I could make something special for you".  "No meat is awesome. I'm definitely a carnivore". I laugh making everyone else laugh. "Regina is that ok with you?"  She looks at me and I give look like I don't care. Pot roast sounds good to me any day. "That would be lovely, thank you I MM. We will be back by 5:30. If there is any problem at all please call me. I've already told you about Henry's breathing problems. If he's coughing and can't catch his breath get him to the ER and call either of us immediately please".  I take a business card from my pocket and hand it over. "No problem. We will take very good care of him. We promise". I hug and kiss Henry and hand him to Regina and she does the same. Then she hands him to David. We say our goodbyes and leave to go to my place on the other side of town.
