A Mistake Could Change A Lifetime

Chapter 25

Time jump- 2 & 1/2 years later.

It's about 9 o'clock at night and Regina and I fall onto the couch. We are both exhausted. Today we had Henry's 5 birthday party. We had kids from his kindergarten class and their parents plus whatever other kids they have. The Nolan's were also there with their kids. Plus Granny, Ruby and her wife Dorothy, along with their daughter Judy. We had a full house and a very busy day but our son was so happy and that's what made it the best day. "Wanna watch a movie babe?"  "Oh god no Emma. I'm so tired, I don't think I'd make it through the opening credits". We both chuckle a bit. "Yeah I hear ya babe. Wanna just head off to bed?"  "Yes but I really want to take a hot relaxing shower first".  "That sounds wonderful sweetheart. Let's lock up and go check on Henry".  She nods and gives me a kiss. We check all the locks and shut the lights off, then head upstairs. We check on our son and he's sleeping comfortably in his new big boy bed. For his birthday we got him a new race car bed. I admit it. I like to watch Nascar and Henry sometimes watches it with me. He gets so excited to see how go fast they can go. So when I saw this bed I knew he would love it and he did. Sometimes he fights us about going to bed just like a normal kid but tonight he went to bed without any problems. Regina and I look at our 5 year old son and we both have a big smile on our face. Regina whispers to me. "Emma what do you think about us having another child?"  I'm a little surprised by the question so I whisper back. "Let's go talk about this in our room babe, ok?"  She nods and we leave Henry's bedroom and walk into ours. "So can I assume that you didn't answer me in Henry's room because you don't want another child?"   "I never said that. I just didn't want to whisper and risk waking him".  "So what is your answer Emma? We've been married now for almost a year and we've been together for over 4 years, do you want anymore children?"  I wrap my arms around her and give a kiss. "Babe I would love another baby with you. I want a whole bunch of little babies crawling around. I'm ready whenever you are. When do you wanna start to expand our family?"  I kiss her again. "Oh my love I'm so happy to hear that. How about we start tomorrow. I'm so tired tonight I don't think I would enjoy anything".  "Ok. Thanks for that babe. I'm all filled up with confidence now". I say with a little laugh and Regina also laughs. "You know what I mean. It's been a busy day and we both are exhausted. Just because we want to have another child doesn't mean we can't enjoy trying to make it". She gives me a smirk and a wink. "Ok I agree with you on this one. Tomorrow though we are definitely starting on giving our son a little brother or sister". She smiles and shakes her head. "Yes my love. That sounds wonderful. I'm going to take a shower then I'll be in bed with you soon".  "Ok sweetheart. You enjoy your shower and I'll be in bed waiting for you". She kisses me and leaves to go into our bathroom. I get undressed and get into bed and I quickly fall asleep. I was basically passed out when Regina came to bed.
The next day Regina and I wake up when Henry runs into our room and jumps on our bed. He pokes us both to wake us up and we laugh. "Good morning my little prince. How did you sleep in your big boy bed?"  He give Regina a big hug. "Mommy I love my bed".  He says. "I'm glad you love it sweetheart but it was mama that picked it out for you". He has a big smile as he looks over at me. "Tank you mama tank you". He leaps on me and gives me a big hug. "You are welcome kid but I think you meant to say thank you".  "Sorry mama. Thaaaank you".  "You are very welcome my boy". He's good about speaking but sometimes he still has a little trouble. So we always try to carefully correct him. We took Henry downstairs and we made breakfast. Since it was Sunday we decided to have a family day. We started out with an early afternoon movie. We took Henry to see the newest Toy Story movie. It was actually good, as are all the other ones. After the movie we took him to the mall so we could go to the Build A Bear store. Henry looked all over the store to see what he wanted to do. He ended up wanting to build Snoopy from the Peanuts cartoon. It was so great watching him take his time to do all the right things to build Snoopy just like the instructor showed him. He must get that from Regina because I would just throw the stuffing in it and call it a day. He did such a great job. After we left there we had lunch at a restaurant inside the mall. After lunch it was almost 3:30 in the afternoon and Henry kept yawning so we decided to take him home for a nap. While Henry was sleeping Regina and I just sat on the couch holding each other. We talked about the great weekend we've had and the possibility of another child.
     4 months later Regina still wasn't pregnant and she was starting to get pissed off and I think a little depressed. One morning after I dropped Henry off at school I came back home to get a few files that I forgot and I found Regina in the kitchen crying. I quickly walked to her and held her. "Babe, what's wrong? Did something happen while I was gone?"  She shook her head no. "Why can't I get pregnant Emma?  It only took 2  inseminations to get pregnant with Henry. What's wrong with me?"  I hold her tight. "Babe everything is gonna be ok. We'll go to the doctor and see what's up. If we have to we can try the insemination thing. I'll do what ever it takes to give us another child". She looks at me with wet eyes and a tear stained face. "Do you really mean that Emma?"   "Of course babe. I want this just as much as you do".  "Oh my love thank you so much. There is really nothing I want more than to expand our family and share all the love we have with our children". She kisses me and gives me a tight hug. While we are holding each other I look at the time and I really need to go. I have to be in court for one of my cases so I say. "Hey Regina I'm sorry but I really need to get going but why don't you call your doctor and make an appointment so we can talk. Hopefully we can work a few things out".   "Ok my love. Thank you again. I love you so much".  "And I love you Regina. If your ready to go I'll walk you out".  She nods and kisses me again. "Yes dear I'm ready. I just need to gather my things". She gets her purse as I take her work bag and put it on my shoulder to carry out for her. I take the files that I came home for and we walk out of the house together. I walk her to her car and she puts everything in and turns back to me. She wraps her arms around my neck and pulls me closer to kiss me. "Thank you again my love. I will call the doctor this afternoon and I will let you know what happens".   "Ok babe and I'll get back in touch with you as soon as I get out of court. Hopefully it won't take so long. This should be an easy one for the judge".  We kiss and hug again then say our goodbyes. She drives off as I get in my truck to head over to district court to testify against someone I arrested.
I was called to testify and it just a bitch. The defense lawyers tried to discredit all the evidence we had and how we acquired it. In the end the judge didn't believe any of what the defense had, so the scumbag was found guilty and sent away for a long time. After too many hours I finally was out of court and was able to check my messages. I had calls and text messages from Regina. Basically be have an appointment at her doctors office at 4pm. It's was 3:30 now so called her. She picked up on the second ring. I told her I was on my way and I'd try to be there as soon as I could. Of course there was traffic on the way back home so I ended up being a half hour late. I ran in and told the  receptionist who I was and she brought me back into the doctors office where Regina was. Once I was welcomed in I shook the doctors hand and walked over to my wife to give her a kiss. "I'm sorry I'm late there was so much traffic on the highway. So what do I need to do doc?"  Regina speaks to me first. "There is no need to do anything Emma".  She tells me as her eyes water up. "Regina why? I told you I was all in on this I swear".  "Emma there is no need for any testing to be done on either of us. The doctor told me....".  I cut her off.  "She told you what? Oh wait, let me guess. Someone like me shouldn't have children because that wouldn't be a good thing for our nation's future". I stand up pissed. "Well let me tell you something doctor, I may not be a perfect male or female but I was able to help Regina conceive Henry so how dare you tell her there isn't anything we should do".  I look at Regina and say. "Let's go babe, we'll find another doctor that will help us".  She stands up next to me and holds my hands. "My love please listen to me. The reason that we don't need any tests is because I'm already pregnant. We are having a baby Emma". My eyes quickly start to water up and I just release tears. Regina's does the same. "You are?.....There is a baby in there?"  I ask pointing to her belly. She smiles and nods at me. We tightly hug each other. When we separate I kiss her and look at the doctor.  "Doc I'm sorry. I'm still a little sensitive about myself sometimes. I hope you can understand".  She said everything was fine. Then she told Regina and I what to expect in the coming weeks. She gave us lots of information about pregnancy because I asked for as much information as she had. I wasn't there when she was pregnant with Henry and I want to do everything right. She said she would email everything she had on pregnancy and also what books that could help. We thanked her for everything before we left and I made sure to apologize to her again. She smiled and said that she would see us in a few weeks at our next appointment. When we left the office Regina and I drove our cars home. We're lucky to have Mary Margaret as a friend. She took Henry home from  kindergarten and was going to drop him off after dinner because we didn't know how long we'd be at the doctors office. When we got home we spent our alone time just cuddling on the couch talking about our future. When Henry came home we didn't say anything about Regina being pregnant. It's to soon to tell. We thanked Mary Margaret for looking after our son and then she left. We played with Henry for a little while then it was bath time and bed time, for not only Henry but for Regina and I.
