Clary walks into the cafe and sees her two best friends sitting at a table in the middle of the room. She starts to walk over to them looking upset. Simon looks up and notices her walking towards them, he nudges River and tells him that Clary is here.  Simon speaks up, trying to sound menacing, "Give me the professors' names and I ... I will end them. You know with ... a scathing email to the dean."

River scoffs and stands up as if he was going to leave, "Don't worry Clary, I'll throw them a couple of punches. They won't even know what hit them."

Clary pushes River back into his seat, "Don't bother," she says, handing Simon a letter reading 'Congratulations!' on the front of it.

Simon responds, looking mildly annoyed, "What? Sad face? Really?"

River pipes up from where he's now leaning back in his seat relaxing, "Well played, well played. What'd they say Ari?"

Clary sits down at the table with her friends, "They accepted me!" she exclaims, "You know it's weird. They kind of liked my assigned work, but they flipped out over the drawings for our graphic novel."

The waitress brings the trio each a latte and biscotti. Simon leans over to whisper something to River before he turns back to Clary and replying with a thank you and a mock bow.

Clary smiles, taking a sip of her drink, "This day will go down in history as the greatest 18th birthday I've ever had!"

Simon leans forward in his seat, "Which is why we are celebrating tonight. Yeah, with Maureen after our show."

"Are we going to that popular club or some other place?" River asks from his spot, as he almost falls off the chair from leaning back so far.

"Pandemonium all the way! So ... what's the deal with you and Maureen, Simon?" comes Clary's response.

Simon looks confused, "What deal? No deal. We just sing together."

Clary laughs lightly, "You seriously don't know she's been crushing on you this whole time?"

River speaks up too, "Totally, she never stops staring at you."

Clary and Simon look at River confused, "Wait, how do you know that?" Clary asks.

"Everyone always talks about it after the show, they're all 'OH look there so cute.' and 'I want someone to look at me like that!', it's annoying really." is Rivers reply.

Simon shrugs his shoulders, "Well I've never thought of her that way."

Clary looks at Simon and asks, "Simon, how can someone as smart and perceptive as you not realize that the person sitting right there is in love with you?"

River gives a half laugh disguised as a cough as Simon replies, "I guarantee you I'm not the only smart perceptive person to make that mistake."

Clary turns her head to look at her hand, down to the table and then back to her hand. She looks confused as Simon laughs and points to her drink, "That's a latte."

"But I could've sworn I had a biscotti," Clary replies looking at a drawing of a biscotti on the table in front of her.

River reaches forward to grab his biscotti, "Here you can have mine," a splash and clink is heard as his Latte is tipped over from River's blind reaching, "Shit! Sorry guys, where are the napkins?"

"Every time, River, every god damn time," Simon sighs putting the napkins into River's hand, "You would've thought you would know how to avoid that by now."

"Well sorry!" comes River's frustrated response, "You said the cup was on the left which clearly it wasn't, now was it?"

"Chill you two! We'll clean it up and then we should head home to prepare for your gig, Simon." Clary speaks up, playing the peacemaker as she always does.

With the mess cleaned up the group splits off with Simon going to his house and Clary and River going back to her loft.
