A/N Sorry for putting this here and not at the bottom where it's easier to ignore. I messed up the timeline a bit with this episode so just try to ignore that if possible. Thanks!!!!

"Hey Clary!" Jocelyn calls out as the pair are leaving Clary's room, "come into the kitchen when you're done. I have your present for you."
"Coming Mom!" Clary calls back. She makes her way into the kitchen with River trailing behind.
Jocelyn smiles when they enter the kitchen. "Congratulations on getting into the art school by the way," she says as she gives Clary a hug before handing her a present.
Clary starts to open the present as she responds, "Thanks, did River tell you?"
"No, Simon's twitter," Jocelyn replies. As Clary opens her mouth to say something in response Jocelyn continues, "I know, I know, 'stalker mom'. But he needs the retweets, he only has 92 followers."
Clary finishes opening the present and starts spinning it around trying to figure out what it is. River pipes up from where he's been surprisingly silent in the corner, "Oooh, what is it? What is it? Can I feel?"
Clary and Jocelyn laugh before Jocelyn turns serious again and turns to Clary looking her in the eye, "It's called a stele."
Clary looks confused, "What is it, like, a paperweight?"
"No, it's much more than that. It's very ancient. I want you to have it. It's a family heirloom."
"We Fray's have heirlooms?"
Jocelyn leans back on her heels, "A few."
Clary looks at is curious now, "You know, it's weird....I doodled something that looked like this this morning. I must have seen it around the house somewhere."
Jocelyn looks uncomfortable shifting on her feet, "Honey, I need to-"
A light bang is heard as a door hits the wall. "Hey guys, sorry I'm late. The captain's got me on those demonic murders," Luke calls out as he walks into the kitchen.
"Hey Dad," River says as he leans into a hug from his father.
"Hey pup. Do you mind staying over tonight? I've got some more work to do at the station," Luke asks.
River sighs, "I don't mind, but you know the house wouldn't burn down if I was by myself for a night."
Luke chuckles, "Then how do you explain what happened the last time we tried that?"
River huffs, pouting for a bit before changing the subject. "Hey! Did you bring the present?"
"Yeah," Luke replies, as he hands a box of spray paint over to Clary, "they were River's idea, 3-D spray paint. Now he can see what you paint too. I better not catch any of that on city walls though."
Clary smiles accepting the gift, "The paint is for Simon's van. I'm insisting they rename the band."
Luke spots the stele sticking out of Clary's pocket, "Did your mom talk to you about that?"
Clary pulls it out for a second before putting it back in her pocket, "The heirloom. Yeah, it's beautiful."
Luke folds his arms over his chest, "Clary, you're 18 now, and -"
Clary lifts her arms in the air before grabbing River's hand and starting to walk towards the door to meet Simon. "What is with you guys? I'm turning 18, it's not like I'm headed off on some epic journey."
River lifts there joined hands in the air, "Oh, but you are! We're going to Lombardi's to celebrate your birthday after Simon's gig."
Jocelyn folds her arms on the counter, "You should come back here after. The city's not that safe right now."
"Ah thanks, but we're all set," Clary replies.
"Yeah, we'll take a rain check," Simon states as he enters the room. "Wait," he pauses, "Do I smell chicken cacciatore?"
Clary sighs grabbing both of the boys hands dragging them towards the door, "Simon, your gig."
"Oh, your singing?" Luke asks.
Simon looks over his shoulder back at Luke, "Yeah, big gig. And by big, I mean not so."
"Wait just one second?" Jocelyn calls as she walks over to give Clary a hug.
After a minute, Clary pats her mom on the shoulder, "Losing circulation here."
Jocelyn hugs her tighter, "Breakfast, you and me, tommorow. Promise?"
"Yep," Clary replies trying to wiggle away now, "Mom....uh, Mom? Mom, you have to let me go. I'm biologically and legally an adult."
Finally letting go, Jocelyn replies, sighing, "I know, that's what I'm afraid of."
"Shall we?" Clary asks offering her arms to the boys.
"Yes, we shall," they respond as the trio leaves the loft.
