Clary and River walk into the antique shop below Clary's apartment. River detaches himself from Clary's arm as she says hello to Dot and they start a conversation. River makes his way up to the apartment, easily traversing the stairs as he knows Clary's house as well as his own, from staying over there whenever Luke was on nights. He makes his way over to the couch sitting down with dramatic huff to announce his presence to Jocelyn. "Hello, my fair lady," comes his awful fake British accent.
Jocelyn replies in her own fake accent, "Well hello there to you as well dear River," before switching back into her normal voice, "so, I heard Clary got accepted into the art school?"
River smiles, proud of his friend, "Yeah, Simon's Twitter?"
Jocelyn gives a quick chuckle, "Yeah..It's Clary's birthday tonight, the big 1-8, 18. You know it's time."
At those words River quiets and fidgets slightly in his seat bringing his hands together in front of him. After a pause he speaks up, "You're going to tell her about the shadow world? What about me?"
"The plan is to do it tonight. I wanted to ask you what you wanted her to know about you. I'll only tell her as much as you want her to know." Jocelyn says calmly, "Can I put my hand on your knee?"
River nods and places his hand on top relishing in the small comforting motion as he pales at the thought of Clary knowing the truth about his childhood. "Maybe wait until she understands the shadow world better before introducing her to my mess?"
Jocelyn winces inwardly at his words, "Hey, you're not a mess, you're.."
Clary walks into the room and calls out, "Who's a mess?"
River moves to dramatically drape himself over the end of the couch, "Me! I'm a mess, I mean have you seen me?"
Clary and Jocelyn chuckle at his usual behaviour. Clary pauses for a second pretending to look him up and down, "I mean with the clothes you're wearing, you would think you got dressed in the dark."
River laughs lightly as he sits back up one the couch, "Really? Blind jokes Clary? I thought we got through this phase last year. By the way I'm pretty sure this is an outfit you picked out for me."
Clary grabs his hand to pull him of the couch, "I will never stop making jokes. Now come on we have to get ready for Simon's gig tonight," comes Clary's reply as they start heading for her room.

Clary shoves a bundle of clothes into River's hands before pushing him towards the bathroom, "The shirts on top, don't take to long."
Rolling his eyes, River walks towards the bathroom and gets changed into the clothes Clary picked for him. When he steps out he looks in the direction of the noise before raising his arms and doing a little spin, "Do I look okay now? What am I wearing by the way? I don't recognize the tags."
Clary finishes putting on the new shirt Dot gave her before zipping up a green hoodie over top. "Don't worry it's nothing too extravagant. A navy blue t-shirt with a bit of a v-neck and two buttons at the top, and a pair of black skinny jeans."
River nods his head before pulling his plaid shirt on loosely over top and double checking his beanie is still on.
"Nuh-uh," Clary pipes up, "you are not wearing that thing in the club! I don't know why Luke hasn't thrown it out on you yet no matter how many times I tell him to."
"Maybe, because I don't let him near it anymore after the last time he tried that," is River's response. "Besides its comfy and it smells nice, like cinnamon and dogs."
"You will always confuse me. If you're ready I'm going to head back to the living room to wait for Simon to pick us up."
