A Regulator's Christmas

Chapter 2

Chavez's POV: we finally arrived in Lincoln and decided to go Christmas shopping for some gifts for the boys and what to get John for Christmas as well we stopped our horses and tied them up then we went to the store to get the gifts Chivato seemed very happy about being in town I could tell he was having a blast we stopped at another general store not Murphy&Dolan's store thank god but another one it was more like a mom and pop shop when you really think about it the couple that ran the store were nice people they were an elderly couple they were also like me they were a Mexican couple Mr and Mrss Lopez was their name they knew me and Chivato pretty well so it wasn't the first time that we been at their store they had everything in their tiny store local people like them as well especially John Carlos Lopez is a very nice man humble you might say his wife Rosa is the same way they love to make people happy and feel at home when we walked in Rosa greeted us Carlos was behind the counter and doing other things I knew some Spanish but not very much I hadn't spoken Spanish since my father died when I was 10 I only knew my mother's people's language the Navajo or (the Diane) as my mother would call them that was the only language I know I'm only half I'm half Mexican and half Navajo my father was a Mexican war veteran who served as a sergeant in the Spanish American war when I was just a baby Chivato and I looked around wondering what to get everybody my wife Hannah is five months pregnant with our second child we already have a young son Gage William Chavez he's three years old Chivato is engaged to his girlfriend Summer Wind she's a young beautiful Indian girl they're going to tie the knot on Christmas Eve of this year Hannah's last name is Earp she's Wyatt Earp's daughter so Wyatt and I are father and son in law and Gage our son is his grandson I get along fine with Wyatt and his wife Josie I have so much planned this year as so does John and Chivato

What are you going to get John for Christmas Chavez? Chivato asked

I'm not sure yet Chivato but I'll think of something "got any ideas? I asked teasing him

Sorry I don't Chivato replied chuckling

Okay I'll think of something don't worry Chivato "what about you what are you getting John for Christmas? I replied

I was thinking about getting him a journal for Christmas "what do you think Chavez is that a good Christmas present? Chivato asked

That's a great Christmas gift Chivato good job "was this why you wanted to come into town? I asked

Yeah I wanted to do some Christmas shopping "is that bad? He asked sounding worried

No that's a great idea it's not bad at all I was just wondering that's all I said

I thought about what to get John I had already had my son's Christmas present and Hannah's Christmas present but I didn't know what to get John I knew John didn't like weapons really so that was out of the picture then I thought and knew that he liked to read so I figured I get him a book by one of his favorite authors I knew Rosa could find the book for me she would do anything for me I was like a son to them so I went up and asked Rosa she was standing behind the counter going through some things

Rosa  podría Tú Por favor  ayudaame encontrar á libro por Carlos Dickens? (Rosa could you please help me find a book by Charles Dickens)I asked in Spanish when I got up to the counter 

Si Seńor José what is the the name of the book and you don't have to always speak Spanish you know this is a America we have to learn to speak English she said
