Will opens his eyes to a strange sight... no, not the sun, even though he hadn't gone outside in around a month or 2. He saw a tall and slim man standing over him. The man clears his throat and says,
"Say pal, you don't look so good. You better find some food before night comes!"
And with that, the man disappears with a puff of smoke. Will, being stupid, decides to breathe in the fumes, causing him to sit up quickly and cough a lot, almost as if he was coughing up a lung. As soon as he stops being light headed from coughing, he gets up and gets a basic understanding of what surrounding him. A field of berries to his north, filled with beehives. What seems to be a huge forest to his east... definitely not going there. A not so big forest to his south, with what seem to be trees that would bear edible nuts, seems useful, except in winter. And what seems to be a savanna type area to his west.
"How does the landscape change like that...? Where am I even? What the hell is this place!? How in the name of god did I even get here!?" Will yells to himself, only being greeted by the sounds of nature to respond. Will shakes his head, "gotta stay sane, this wilderness won't beat me!" That's what he always says, but if he's actually being honest with himself, unless there's 5 other people here, he's gonna be dead in the first week, or as long as it takes for someone to starve. Will looks up, seeing that the sun is essentially just rising. He walks around where he woke up, eventually just going over to the not so dense forest. Will looks around at the trees,
"Wowee, what a nice hairdo, reminds me of an afro" he says to himself sarcastically, picking up a piece of flint, "this should come in handy." He stuffs the sharp rock in his pocket. Eventually, the sun starts to set, quicker than Will would have hoped. Thankfully, Will had made a crude looking axe and had gathered enough wood and grass to make a fire, so there he sat, just staring at the flame and cooking a few berries and carrots he had collected. As Will waited for the sun to come up he got up and just walks around his campfire, until he saw a strange sight, a girl seemingly around his age walking around in the dark with a torch. The girl had long blonde hair, a white shirt, a flower in her hair, pale skin, a red dress, and white and red socks that went up to her thighs (or somewhere around that area, possibly to her knees). Will just stares at the girl walking through the area, she doesn't seem to notice Will, and because Will has no business startling a female in the darkness, he waits at his campfire, just watching the girl. After a while Will eventually gives up on seeing if the girl will leave and just sits down, leaning his back against a tree, and falling asleep.
When Will wakes up the next morning, he's greeted, not with the sun, not birds, not even many trees, he's, in fact, greeted with the face of the girl from last night looking at him, standing near him.
"Have you awakened?" The girl asks, sitting back, yet still looking at Will. Will immediately gets up and reaches into his back pocket which to poked a hole in to hold his axe, only to find out his axe had been taken out and put dangerously close to the fire. Will questions of flint can melt, which upon further inspection, it can, and it did, and the handle was also on fire. Seemed like this girl planned ahead.
"Uh... um... eh..." Will tries to think of something to say, but ends up just giving up and saying, "just kill me then, I haven't gotten far anyway..."
To this phrase the girl chuckles slightly.
"I'm not going to kill you, although death is inevitable for anyone, it won't come for you yet... yet..." the girl slowly gets up and dusts off the... well... dust, off of her skirt, then looks at Will.
"I couldn't help but notice your interesting catalogue of head accessories, may I ask what you're using them for?" The girl asks tilting her head.
"W-well, first off, I don't even know your name, and with god as my witness I'm definitely not going to share personal information with you, and second off, mom always told me never to talk to strangers, so..." Will puts one hand into his pocket. The girl looks up at the sky, then sighs.
"Fine, my name is Wendy, there, now I'm technically not a stranger to you anymore, now may you please say your name?" The girl, now established to be named Wendy, asks.
"Eh..." Will clears his throat "Will, my name is Will."
Wendy slightly smiles, "your name is a German one, correct? Or maybe an old English one?"
"Uh... eh... would it be wrong to say I have no idea?" Will asks, taking his hand out of his pocket to scratch the back of his head. Wendy sighs and shakes her head disapprovingly. She looks up at the sky again, the sun had peculiarly already gotten to the point where it would be noon. Will also looks up and says,
"How did it... how is it noon already? It hasn't even been 15 minutes... has it?"
"It seems so, do you have enough wood and grass to make a fire? I burned through my wood last night... literally and figuratively" Wendy says, looking down at Will.
"Well... I have 1 log and a lot of grass, I also burned through my wood last night, as well as my food... I cooked it all, I mean, I have a lot of roasted berries and a few cooked carrots... that's about it" Will says, looking back down and facing Wendy.
"Great... you have an axe ri-... right... I threw it in the fire..."
"Yeah I forgot to ask, why did you do that?" Will asks, tilting his head.
"I thought you would attack me with it, alright? I can't fight very well..." Wendy says, looking a bit annoyed.
"Alright, alright, no worries, I can make another axe" Will says, pulling out a piece of flint and some twigs. After a surprisingly short amount of time, an axe had been made... although it looked pretty flimsy... and they only had about an hour until night time. Realizing this, Will immediately began chopping down trees like a madman. Wendy watches Will chop down the trees, often saying "there goes that one" and "oh, looks like that one died." When it started to suddenly become night Will started quickly making a fire.
As Will and Wendy sat at opposite sides of the fire, Will started looking through his supplies... mainly his food supply.
"... are you hungry, Wendy?" He asks, taking out a few roasted berries.
"A little, yes" she replies. Will gets up and kneels down beside her, handing her a few roasted berries.
"Not much, but it should keep you from starving for a while, although I'm pretty sure they expire quickly, so be aware of that" Will says, giving a small yet thoughtful smile. Wendy smiles back and eats a few roasted berries.
"Thank you, Will" Wendy says, looking over to Will.
"Anytime, anytime" Will replies, "so... does this mean we're gonna be partners?"
"I guess, it would be a bit easier I suppose" Wendy says, slightly shrugging.
"Another mouth to feed so that'll be a problem, but I'm sure we'll survive!" Will says, doing a little hero pose. Wendy hears a faint voice seemingly saying 'maybe by the skin of your teeth, heh heh heh...' Wendy looks around, but eventually shrugs it off.
"This is gonna be the start of an amazing partnership, Wendy! We'll get out of here together! And save anyone else trapped here!" Will seems energetic in that regard.
"Yeah... well, we'll try, I guess" Wendy says, smiling and looking back to the fire. Will sits beside Wendy and tells about all of the ways they're gonna survive for the night, until they both eventually fall asleep, ready to survive in the harsh environment of the Constant.
Author's note
So uh, hey, it's me, the author (obviously) I'm just here to say a few things before the story progresses further...
1) I plan to have this be a LONG story, so be mindful of that
2) I'm currently a student, so if there's large gaps between chapter releases, or it just stops for a while, it's either because of school, or I'm just thinking of new idea (or I'm burnt out and need a break from story writing)
3) I plan to include every character in Don't Starve one way or another, eventually having all of them fight the final boss of Don't Starve Together (The Ancient Fuelweaver, look it up if you get the chance)
4) I know Wendy has been confirmed to be between 8 and 10, but I'm having her be around 12 and 13 in this storyAlright, I think that's about it, so, I hope you enjoy the chapters to come, and feel free to give feedback and ways I can improve the story!
Until we meet again,
King
